Often it's because they'll expire soon...like a lot of other items at the 99 cent store. I recently bought a box of Annie's organic crackers for 99 cents at a discount store because they were going to expire in a few weeks! |

99cent store usually get items that are either beyond expiration dates or very close to it. Some of their items are just things that no other store wanted to sell or couldn't sell. |

The batteries at 99 cent stores are supremely cheap knockoff brands, not name brand batteries. Don't buy generic batteries, especially the really cheap ones. They have only a small fraction of the lifetime and stored power of name brands. Plus, the cheap batteries are toxic, may rupture or leak chemicals; they may lose their charge when stored, or they may not even work at all. You are going to be replacing and throwing away a huge amount of those 99 cent batteries, so many that you will probably actually save money by just shelling out 6$ for some Duracells or Energizers. |
