metrosomething | Why would a company like mcdonalds want you to use ya card( debit credit) instead of cash? |
Can anyone tell me why a company like mcdonalds would rather you use debit or credit.........or matter of act why would they want you to use credit...
Is there a behind the scenes benefit for them ? |

Yes, less chance of employee theft which is probably a big deal for McD. Less cash around to steal. Also, cash handling costs money to count, sort, deposit, etc. Another reason might be simplified banking, they get one daily cash transfer into their account from the debit companies. Finally, accepting debit cards probably encourages customers to buy more or to purchase when they don;t have cash on them |

you may become surprised when i tell you that McDonald's in the international markets demand only cash and refuses to accept ATM cards or credit cards eventhough they are safe to use .
anyway when a shop accepts only cards and no cash then they don't want to have the burden of carrying cash around until it gets deposited in the bank . |

I'm not sure of Mc Donald's does it (they probably do) but I know a couple of fast food places do. They charge you a transaction fee. At most places its about fifty cents or so. Just imagine how much money they make everyday from all the people who use their debit cards to buy lunch! |

No, they would rather you use cash. It actually costs them money every time a credit transaction is made.
However, we are becoming more and more a cashless society. Many people don't carry cash, or barely do. Therefore, if you don't have cash but you want to eat, you will go someplace that takes your debit or credit card. Around here, Burger King really started that several years ago. The other fast food places took a lot of time to catch on.
Bottom line: they offer credit card payment as an option so they get more business. |

did your local mcdonalds tell you they prefer debit and/or credit over cash?
we are not in an electronic age that is becoming more so everyday and will not change....maybe they prefer this kind of payment because it prevents shortage in the register due to employee theft or error? |

So the dumasses that work the register don't have to count change. Then again, I think all the mega corporations are trying to push us towards a cashless society. Hell, look at the Visa commercials nowadays, trying to make it look like a bad, evil thing to use cash. |

The money would be almost instantly credited to their accounts, so there's an immediate cash flow advantage. If everyone paid by card, then there would be no point in someone robbing the store, no need to carry as much cash- on-hand to make change. Even if it's just a partial system, the financial benefits would start to increase quickly. McDonald's refuses written checks because of fraud and sometimes they bounce [they'd have a hard time repo-ing a Big Mac, fries, and a Coke!] -- but check cards don't bounce, but a few stores will accept them if they're in-house gift cards!!! ... |
