I have no idea. I, for one, will not be using them for my banking needs for at least 20 years. I will consider using them if they fire all the upper management, and can prove that they're no longer the greedy, sleazy, poorly run companies that they currently are. |

I also heard this news. Your money is insured upto $100k by the FDIC, so there is no chance you will lose your money, so this shouldn't hinder someone opening an account at MS or GS.
Of course Bank of America is a lot more established in commercial banking, but since the risks in commercial banking is less than investment banking they (GS and MS) are changing their business |

If you have a pension, an IRA, or a 401k your money may be invested with Morgan Stanley or Goldman Sachs.
To answer your question. Because they now have the status of being bank holding companies they can acquire depositors by purchasing existing commercial banks. So, you may find that you have a checking account with them whether you wanted one or not.
