I would say apple. For the complete opposite reason put above; They keep up with Microsoft in terms of service, R&D, product line and software for less than an 1/8 the market share.
Also, because apple does not really allow third party hardware, there are no compadibility issues, everything is simpler. Plus they come up on all that Apple Care people pay for and never have to use!

I think apple are a much more creative brand and they are catching up, but they will never be as successful as Microsoft. Not unless everyone suddenly catches on to the brilliance of Linux! Which I doubt.....

Financially , Microsoft. They have the largest market share. Apple is nowhere close to it.
