Will Ford and General Motors stay in business or not?
Why or why not?

I think that GM is in great big doo doo! They are, as usual, dragging their feet in the restructuring to be competitive market. Ford is slow as well but at least are taking the right steps now but it will remain to be seen if it is too little, too late. I personally think Ford, at least, will make it. I am a firm believer that Americans should Buy American. Toyota is the Wal*Mart of the automotive world. Kill all the competition and then have your way with the consumers. The Japanese may have lost World War II but they are sure making up for it now!

They will stay in business, but they will be overtaken by Toyota. Toyota (and some of the other Japanese manufacturers) has mastered the art of building vehicles that are reliable, fuel efficient, have extremely good build quality, and are technologically advanced. Toyota is expanding their influence in America, and making inroads into GM & Ford's main market. GM and Ford can learn much from how the Japanese do things. GM and Ford will need to reshape their operations to compete in the modern world. This will mean plant closures, trimming down of product ranges, introducing innovative new products, improving product quality, and expanding to growth areas such as China. GM and Ford have started to introduce changes. I hope they can turn things around.

Yes they will stay in business. But the business will be operating in China.

That is the world's largest economy and has the most buyers available. It is questionable whether or not they will still sell cars here.

More people should buy American. We would not have this problem.

Its a shame but, I think they are both done. Even if they join forces. They are competing against other car companies that don't offer retirement and other benefits. It hard to make a profit with a large over head.
