Are you kidding? Wal-Mart is the reason many other businesses are going under, If anything Wal-Mart will monopolize retail within the next ten years.

Samtheblondeone
It is unlikely that low-cost providers like Walmart will go out of business. They do not sell "luxury items", they sell mostly commodities, things that people need such as food and clothing all at a low cost. People will still be able to afford these items even in the recession.

Hope this helps.

nah, i saw on the newspaper that sales for wal-mart actually went up 1% while many other retail stores such as macy's are starting to see their sales decline.

walmart has many store across the nation no, circuit city has until march, no idea what is H-E-B

Stanley M
Most definitely not. Wal-Mart has been around for about 40 years and in that short span of time it managed to basically become number one, with a net worth of more than $200 billion. Wal-Mart continues to make millions as we speak, and with the habit of swamping any ATTEMPT for a business career, it certaintly is going to last. (Especially with the openings of Wal-Mart Superstores all around the world)

ronald.glass@sbcglobal.net
No; not in the current economy. It is the low cost retailer with the greatest or best prices for consumers. Costco is somewhat in the same situation (low cost efficient retailer). The best business model for retailing are stores like Wall-mart and Costco (warehouse buildings, low margins, high turn over of inventory, crowed stores).

a lot of retailers with high debt will struggle. recession will last longer than many people think. but wal mart is best of breed and will be fine. circuit city had high debt and poor management.
