Will a company tell me the HR person's name?
If I call a company, will the secretary tell me the HR manager's name if I ask? I'm not sure if they try to avoid saying it so he/she doesn't receive unwanted phone calls or mail. I'm planning on finding out the persons name then mailing something to them. Do you think this will work? If not, what should I say?

First. It doesn't hurt to try. The worst that will happen is you don't get what you're looking for.

Second. Tell the receptionist you have something of value to the HR director, or that you have worked with other HR managers and want to see if what you do could be helpful to their HR manager, which could get you put through. Why not ask the person directly if they are open to your material if you can get them on the line? Why waste your time sending it if they won't look at it? Also, it could get trashed before it even gets to their desk.

Third. If you are looking to send a resume, the last person you want to send it to is HR. They are not there to help you. If you need more explanation, contact me directly, but trust me, they are more of a gate keeper / kick you out of the box role than pass you through. Find the hiring manager.

Fourth: Do a domain search on the company site with the term HR or human resources in your search. This could help you to get that person's name directly, though they are less likely to be on a company site.

all you do is - call the company, and ask how to get ahold of the HR person via mail. Then they tell you - then you can ask who would you make the letter out to...they should answer that

Psychodelic Chicken
you can always ask, it is always best to show initiative when trying to get a job. If they do not give you the person name, then ask who would be best to address your letter to.

Hope that helps :)

JUST CALL AND ASK TO BE TRANSFERED TO HR DEPARTMENT ONCE THAT PERSON PICK-UP THEN YOU CAN GET HIS OR HER NAME

Ronae
Can't hurt to ask. Typically they do give the HR employees names when you ask.

I am an HR Manager and yes they should tell you the name. If they don't, they probably are not a legit company.
