They will survive in part, I think, because of the older americans. There are too many of the population that are unwilling or unable to use (atleast to the full capabilities) the internet to access the stuff they want. Although you can find about anything over the computer there are many things that are better to have in hand to decide which one, if any, fits your needs. I won't buy a bathing suit that I can't try on. Ya know? |

Very good question ... they will probably last for many more years. There will always be people who want to see first hand and not trust the pictures online.
Plus the digital divide is still with us and there will be many who are not online much if at all.
Many of my friends no longer have internet access at home they just check their mail at work and visit a few sites but don't surf much.
Department stores will need to get back to the very personal service they once offered. |

They'll still be around, because consumers enjoy the experience of actually seeing, trying, testing etc. the products they intend to buy...but for large ticket items, computers, tv's, etc. the internet with it's usually no-tax, free shipping merchants can save lots of money |
