Are UAW people really that stupid? Don't you have to have at least an 8th grade education to work for the UAW? Does the UAW want the strike so they can have another vacation? Are they really that lazy? Is that why the USA can't compete globally?

You bring up good questions. The unions really are pretty good in theory but historically they have been affiliated with people who do not manage them well.
Now GM has had its opportunity to produce more inexpensive cars. They must cut down perhaps and start over. What I mean by that is that the people do not want to work for GM because they do not have imput. Its like the guys who started microsoft and Apple. They wish that they were struggling to accomplish a goal. Now they do not like to work there as much because to accomplish a goal it must be accepted by thousands of other workers and a lot of paper work goes into it. Anyways do not count GM out ever. They produce excellent buicks among other cars.
UAW will never send anyone into bankruptcy. UAW does not necessarily create a better worker. The UAW has been getting weeker and weeker. I am not really sure what the value is of a union anymore and for that matter the politicians that support the union. |

UAW is for themselves, not the employees. They could care less if GM goes into bankruptcy and employees being lay off as long as they get their union dues. |

everybody wants to make as much money as they can, it's a measurement of self-worth.
they may be short-sited in asking for job security, as who knows how many cars people will continue buying, especially the gas guzzlers, but they will really have to take a pay cut, with Honda and Toyota getting people to work for cheaper.If I was making SUV's I'd be looking for another job. |

The UAW isn't stupid. With all the contracts that GM has with the govt, it ain't going under. The govt would have bailed out Chrysler if needed and they'll do it for GM if needed. If they have to go on strike then they'll have to do it carefully because they can all be replaced by non union workers. Think about it. Why do you think they have plants in Mexico and Canada? Workers can be brought from those plants here (on emergency visas- if you get the govt involved in a bail out, see how fast the rules are changed) or worse, PRODUCTION at foreign plants can be increased and more foreign plants built. They're used to walking a fine line- but it's getting thinner all the time. |

GM is getting richer while it's workers get poorer. I doubt they will go bankrupt over this, but makes for a good wake up call. I hope the union wins this round!!!! |

You should find out the facts before you judge, the big issue is job security. They aren't stupid or lazy. The U.S. can't compete globally for a lot of reasons. A big one is corporate greed, big companies have people that travel around to see how cheap they can get products made or work done. I work for a major airline and am a union shop steward sometimes you have to stand for what you believe in, trust me corporate big whigs don't get rich by being nice. |
