What the heck | Will the economy kill the superstore? |
Job loss sucks, but one brihgt side that might come out of this is that Walmart, Lowes, and other super PIG HOG scum sucking superstores will go out of business. I remember the local hardware store in my hometown and the electronic repair shop and so on..... I want them back! So that we can all have a chance at owing our own small "hometown" business!

The superstore is just a reseller of CHINESE (SE asian) products in near totality now -- and the Chinese will bend/backwards to keep that supply line coming to America, even if they have to slash their/wholesale pricing & adjust their business costs for manufacturing (while we fritter away BILLIONS on dopey banking & "highway construction/ infrastructure"). Basically, we as a country are now DEPENDENT of driving over to Lowes & Walmart & Target etc. for about everything you/we need (actually, not me.. as I live in NYC and we walk to local stores still.. like a hardware store, even though there's a Home Depot and Lowes a 5-min. drive away!!!).
We are buyers, and we have needs/wants and still will BUY. Less, sure. But if you need a lightbulb or battery or a new shower curtain, TV or birthday TOY, etc. etc. -- chances are, you know where you're going and that it will be made in China. Of course, in ALL of this.. is the margin/profit on what it is that they sell -- and the diversified Big Box stores will carry on while the low-margin stores that sell Computers and certain electronics...can (and will) be hammered. |

I love your description of the PIG HOG superstores, I couldn't agree more. I miss the small town stores like REAL bakeries, butchers, grocers, produce stands. I've actually started going back to the mom & pop places (if I can find any) as much as possible. It's nice when I walk in the door of our local baker and they KNOW me! Unfortunately we appear to be in the minority. A lot of the shoppers today DON'T remember the hometown shops since the big box stores have been on the scene for 20 years or so.
All we can do as consumers is take the matter in our own hands, stop going to WalMart (half the stuff I've ever bought there is crap anyway) and start going to the Mom & Pop stores where you get treated with respect. Nothing worse than being waited on by someone that wishes you would DIE before you actually went to their line to check out. |

I wish but i don't see it happening,If anything Wal-Mart is killing the economy! people now-days are like sheep they just keep doing what they think is in their best interest but in the long run will hurt everyone in the community. They don't think about what the economic repercussions these big box stores do to the community and how they basically replace high paying jobs with good benefits for the sad pathetic jobs that these places offer just so they can save .04 cents on a can of peas. Its all just catching up to us after 20 or so years of turning a blind eye to it, now no one can afford to own a home or buy a car because all the good jobs are gone and who's gonna give a loan to somebody that makes 8.00hr working at Wal-Mart! |

Sorry, but I think it will have the opposite effect. Small business will go under first. Large corporations like Wal-Mart will probably close a few locations but they'll be able to survive. |

I think that superstores are just small stores that have actually succeed in providing the customer with the products and prices they need...unlike your little stores that obviously had something unsatisfactory for the majority of the customers. Owning and running a business is a tough job, filled with lots of competition. No one is stopping anyone from owning a small "hometown" business... except just not being good enough at it! |

No, the stores that sell cheaper merchandise will survive better than the ones that sell more expensive merchandise, walmart took a hit on profit to sell cheaper and put some of the bigger boys, like curcuit city, out of business. |
