F-F benefits from recession because its basic model pivots on workforce availability: in recession, young persons and marginal employees are more attracted to the low wages and low probability of advancement.
As F-F requires more training, this diminishes, but there is an additional factor for this recession. As product liability increases and risk of contamination increases (USDA is no longer interested in enforcement at the outlet level), more foods will be centrally processed.
This satisfies the old Shipwreck Kelly's in the F-F corporate structure, who will kill any change in the model, so in total, they will benefit. |

No, the Fast Food industry will not suffer in this or any recession.
Americans love their Fast Food and will always find money to pay for what they love (in my opinion). |

No, I do not think that it will. Fast food is relatively inexpensive, so if the US does go into a recession, I do not think that it will affect the fast food industry. |

Some smaller, mom & pop type places, but not the big ones like Mcdonalds & Taco Bell. THey are deep pockets and will be fine. |

I hope so - fast food is bad for you , your community and your country. They treat their employees like trash and have ridiculous turnover rates.
I think as gas becomes expensive the dollar menus will go away and people may not want to spend $10 on lunch at McDs. plus less drive throughs if gas doubles. More meals cooked at home I bet |

I am thinking that the only real thing that suffers in an enclosed system is things coming in to it and leaving!
Imports and exports.
So unless I can order a hamburger in Germany from the USA i don't think that the fast food industry will be touched.
The bigger international fast fooders will be supported by the vastness of their belt size and the litte fast fooders will be self sustained within the boudaries of the country, unless the little fast food guys get their meat from Iceland and can't afford to buy it any more.
rest assured ppl will sill eat fast food. |

I hope so, maybe then all the people in this country who are greatly over weight will choose a healthier alternative. |

mcDonalds stock is doing well and expected to do well in 2008 due to the fact that they are about to start selling coffee's and are hiring for full time barista positions. expected revenue increase of 1B in 2008 cause of new coffee products and smoothies alone. |

I think it's unclear as to what will happen to the industry as a whole. At first thought, I would say, yes, it will suffer. But then, I would think that with inflation and costs rising at the grocery store.. a lot of people are finding out that it is VERY expensive, almost more costly to cook for and feed a family at home. But then you factor in wellness and the ‘green’ movement…. And you lead yourself back to.. a very good question! |

I believe it may prosper. Instead of a family paying for an average or above average restaurant, they will get the cheap fast food. |
