Honestly, in some ways it seems fanatical. I worked briefly for a Wal-Mart when I was in college and the group cheers/ pep talks/ endless mission statements seems more like brainwashing than teamwork. It didn't take me long to realize how hypocritical it was either. The corporation goes on and on about it being a family-like, but in reality I was told I would be fired if I went over 40 hours/week (although I was scheduled for it) When I confronted my superior about the problem I was met with an angry response. I was told I could not leave after my shift was over even though I had plans (and was going to go over my hours). Also, Wal-Mart has TONS of anti-union propaganda that they throw at new hires. I'm not even sure if that is legal. Wal-Mart may want to look like a friendly, hometown company, but realistically they are a corporate monopoly. |

I don't like the fact that they move into small towns, undercut all the small businesses, causing them to close their doors.
BUT, I like their prices, their location, and the fact that I can buy food, beer, clothing, guns, and ammo all from the same place! I shop there all the time.
BOTTOM LINE - it hurts small business, but helps the consumer. |

i think they perform a great service by lowering prices. as yet, the have no major completion. love their sam's very much. i wonder if no major completion will ultimately lead to a gradual increase in prices like most stores. who would invest big time today to try and compete. they rule in the us. at least for now. they have improved so much since their inception. the late sam of arkansas was some king of marketing genius. amazing story. |

I just like shopping there, but there are too few locations. I think they can compete with K-Mart, but many people around here have a very low opinion of Wal-Mart for some reason. |

-Recently worked for Wal-Mart. Monticello, MN- No longer employed there--My age: 20
Everyone has opinions on Wal-Mart. I shop there and have worked there. There are a few Wal-Mart stores that I have been to that were not kept clean and I was not impressed. But the Wal-mart I worked at was a newer store and it was always clean. And most of the cleaning crew worked hard to keep it that way.
At Wal-Mart I recieved great benefits and the employees were very friendly for the most part. A few older ladies, were rude every now and again... But who knows why?
Management was great. I could talk to them about anything. There were a few times I heard that the OPEN DOOR policy had been abused but as far as being organized, i would give them a 9 out of 10.
hope this helps. |
