Frak | Will you stop buying gas from Exxon and Mobil? |
The CEO of Exxon and Mobil is getting a 400 million dallor retirement package. This is unacceptable. Between gas prices being so high and profit margins making all-time highs. We the consumer need to send a message since the Government won't do anything. Ban from buying Gas from Exxon and Mobil to send a message and tell your friends to do the same. Additional Details By having people stop buying gas from Exxon and Mobil it will reduce thier profits.
I CAN NOT STOP EVERYONE FROM BUYING THIER GAS.
But by spreading the word you can help thier profits lower. Since thier will always be someone buying thier gas.
I can not stop the entire us or an entire state from buying Exxon or Mobil gas on here. But if I can get a few people to stop buying thier gas. I've done my job. Anything to reduce sales for them. |

The boycott will work, Exxon won't let themselves go out of business! We're not asking for free gas, and we're not trying to run them out of business! We just want them to stop getting away with so much profit! And there is no way anyone can dare tell me that they don't make profit, here is a NY Times article about the CEO's freakin salary, this gets me so FIRED UP!!!

Boycott won't work...even if you could organize it...
Lower gas prices are what we want. But the prices are set by the market (us). Oil producers are trying to make a buck...just like you are. They charge what the market will bear.
They buy crude as low as possible because the difference in buying costs and selling price is their profit, their take-home pay. When the profit margin gets slim, they just divert production to more profitable outputs. A refinery can make a lot of different products other than gasoline. When they do that then the supply of automotive fuel goes down prices go up and the margins look better so they move more production back to automotive fuels.
They're not trying to gouge you. They're just trying to do the "American" thing and make a buck in the free enterprise system. The thing that keeps the price of gas so low to begin with is HIGHER VOLUME and COMPETITION. If you want lower transportation prices then support alternative energy or renewable fuel sources! That will stimulate more competition and lower prices...with the lower prices more people will drive more and fuel prices, fuel cells, hydrogen converters, electric, hybrid, people powered vehicles will all get cheaper.
If anything, boycotting the top two oil producers will stimulate higher prices because they'll have to raise prices later to create a monetary buffer to ease the next "boycott."
You might just be instigating a series of higher prices stimulated by this very post. I hope not but the damage has already been done. |

Arbitrage

This is just another urban legend floating around if you're trying to lower gas prices. If you're bored and want to pay higher prices in the short term to "send a message," then it's fine.
Boycotting Exxon isn't going to work to bring down prices. If everyone stopped buying from Exxon and used the other providers, then the other providers would run out of gas pretty quickly due to supply and demand chain effects. What would happen is that they would buy their gas from Exxon and overall all prices would go up, not down.
Full mythbuster at Snopes.

To lower gas prices, you have to lower demand, which includes things like carpooling, public transportation, alternative sources of energy, and better milage vehicles. |

No Debt

No, they are not my first choice but if there is nothing else available. Since we have to pay higher prices at the pump, have you ever wondered how can I get a pience of that? Check out www.4-ecorp.com/baystone for a way to pay less at the pump and make some money at the same time. |

I don't buy from them.
But you know -- somehow if one multi-national corporation goes out of business (if it doesn't get bought out first) ...
... you're still paying off the beast in one form or another.
The best thing you can do is use less gasoline. (Drive slower, yeah right -- that'll last a few miles). Stop gunning the gas pedal when the light changes. If you're wealthy enough -- buy a hybrid.
Take mass transit. Walk more. Intelligently plan how you can lump your shopping all in one stop.
I wish you well. |

it wouldn't work since you only want to influence two players in the market (imaging you could do that indeed), you would not be able to drive the market anyway. And do you know the half of the high price of gas is contributed by the government tax? Not the companies earning the most. so maybe a wrong target... :) |
