Woolworths finally closing its doors?
What would you miss about woolworths or known better as woolies where I come from when it closes it doors? I still can quite believe its gonna close after all these years!

In the town I grew up in, it was really a centrepiece of the High Street, so I think a lot of small to medium sized towns in the UK will suffer.

It was great for cheap home furnishings and kitchenware. I kitted out my student flat really cheaply with stuff from Woolies and didn't have to go all the way out of town to a big supermarket warehouse.

Of course, the fact I could get sweeties, a newspaper and some pens and pencils there was also incredible. It's been one of my favourite shops for years. It's a shame the rest of the British public have just been walking past it every day and not going in.

-- Oh! Also, just remembered. It's the only place I know of for miles around that stocks and sells Milka chocolate. I must stock up before the place shuts down... :-(

-- PS: Woolies business model wasn't as bad as is being made out. It's the agressive, uncontrollable growth of supermarkets that has killed it. Woolworths tried a number of out of town warehouse stores under the "Big W" brand but they were still pushed out by the tactics of Tesco etc.

I'm pretty gutted about that, I hope they pull through.

Woolworths is the place you go when you need... anything really. Chocolate, gifts, music, electronics, household items.

My town won't be the same without it.

And it's the only place that sells Reece's Cups :(

I will really miss Woolworths too. I live in a small town and it was always a good place to go when it got dark early in winter and i was waiting for the bus - i might buy myself a little treat, as everything's so cheap, eprhaps something new for the house or some fairy lights. And since it's central it's so much easier to gett o than the big hypermarkets on the edge of town. and i never felt i was being sold stuff i didn't want - i find the big supermarkets, you go in for one thing and come out with more than you wanted. the atmosphere was always pleasant too, nice red shelves, staff who seemed happy and knew the store without being pushed about, and they were good with refunds. am very very upset it's going. i wholeheartedly agree with the person who says this:

It's a disgrace, and i think, quite sinister

cant think of one thing actually, havnt been in one of there shops in years.

Yes, It's the end of the "Five and Ten"...

BUT, there is a hope of some of the smaller stores being saved, and the 'Woolworth' brand name will carry on.

The one in York's 'Coney Street' closed a year ago. The main failing with 'Woolies' is that they're all in town and city centres, where nobody goes anymore.

Have you ever seen a 'Woolies' in an 'out-of-town' shopping centre.?

hmm..are u sure? better go poundshop then
