Would you ever boycott a product if it went against your principles?

I do all the time -- I try to be a very ethical, informed consumer. If I'm aware of a company uses sweatshop labour, treats their workers like crap or tries to crush unions, I don't do business with them. Products that hurt the environment are also on the hit list for me. Animal products are included in this.

Any industry or company where I'm aware of animal, human, or environmental abuses I generally avoid. Flowers, diamonds, meat, most clothing stores, etc. Most major corporations, basically. I support alternative, eco-friendly, and organic products.

So yeah, I'm extremely conscious in my puchases. My money won't go to a company that used sweatshops with 10 year olds working 14 hour days or who dumps crap in the rivers. I won't support that kind of thing at all.

yes, I am boycotting 7-11. They are dropping Citgo gas because it is a Venezuelan company, and the president of Venezuela called Bush the devil. Well, i fought in Iraq, and Bush is the devil, so i boycott 7-11 for not supporting the truth.

triteamdan
Of course! Why wouldn't you? I refuse to shop at Walmart. I never have and I never will.

laneydoll
Probably. I boycott several local businesses just b/c I was treated badly in the store.
Fortunately, Americans have the right to buy or not buy what or where ever they choose.

Justin
I've done this many times. Three examples:

Dell - customer service

Walmart - killing small business, killing wages, using the government to subsidize health care for their workers - yep, our taxes pay for their increased profit.

RIAA Music - haven't purchased a CD in years and when I get one as a gift, I return it for a refund. Not that the music they release is worth it anyway, but that's just my opinion - I grew out of top 40 crap a long time ago.

Yes I would, I in fact boycott certain things daily. I can only hope I am more than a drop in the bucket, I dont know if I make a difference, but I can face myself in the mirror

daddysgurl6891
maybe

Bronwen
Yes, I would.

Currently I am boycotting an entire company because I don't like their business practices. If they are the only people in town who have the thing I need, I either find it somewhere else on the internet, or I go without. I am proud to say Wal-Mart has not had one penny of my money in well over a year.

nestles CO. baby formula in third world country's nuff said!!!!

No.
1) Products don't go against principles, people do. (In fact, products, being inanimate, don't go at all.)
2) Boycotts are notoriously unsuccessful.
3) Buying at discount at, say, Costco, more effectively "boycotts" than anything else because it forces the other to actually compete instead of waste time on propaganda.
4) The original boycott was named for a Mr. Boycott, and the movement was to not pay him the exorbitant rent that he was charging in Ireland. This is where a boycott might be successful because it was actually what we would now call "civil disobedience."

Yes! whenever i don't get the desired service or quality, i boycott.

What?
Probably not, unless it was made out of babies.

The Big Achiever
Of course I would...why won't I? You've already answered the question for me...it goes against my principles...I don't have double standard...

Meghan O
Absolutely. Unfortunately, our economy is highly driven by money and greed, so voting with your pocketbook and word-of-mouth publicity is often the best way to tell businesses what you think of illegal or unethical practices. A very old marketing theory is that when someone is pleased, they'll tell 3 people. But when someone is displeased, they'll tell an average of 14 people. You would think that would make companies a little more leery of bad publicity. Unfortunately, the law often favors the "just don't get caught" type of corporate mentality.

great sachin
Yes I will boycott a product if it went against my principles because I live in India and India is democratic country. Everyone has right to speech, thoughts, etc. So in my view We can boycott a productif......................principle...
