Would you hire a lawyer where the employees wore uniforms?
I work for a small law firm where the lawyer is considering forcing all of the employees to wear uniforms (think navy blue stewardess uniforms – VERY cheap looking and unflattering). This is unheard of in my town and I was wondering if anyone would actually think twice about hiring a law firm where all of the employees were forced to wear uniforms.

Would it make us look more professional or less? Our normal attire is on the business formal side (dark suits with dress pants or skirts).

Sir J
I would be less inclined to hire them (unless the skirts were really short)

But seriously, it's a foolish idea. It's not a dental office.

REnate
He may be doing this because some workers are dressing inappropriately for the office. Most people in law firms are paid well enough to afford nice cloths.

Is he willing to pay for the uniforms? If not then you need to sit him down and speak with him.

EllisFan
that sounds ridiculous to me. it will look way less professional. you aren't a cleaning service, you are lawyers. that's crazy.

you wil be the laughing stock of the courthouse and all the other attorneys will laugh at you and make fun of you, and then no one will want to hire you because the word will get out that you are looked down upon in your industry. Bad idea.

General Custer
What really counts is the attorney's reputation for winning on behalf of his clients and how does his pay and benefits stack up against your alternatives? Will the attorney buy and clean the uniforms? That could be a big savings for the employees.

Gem
I would think that the lawyer was a control freak and very weird.

Would I hire him? Depends, but I know that walking into a "professional" office and seeing 5 little "auto-matons" all wearing a uniform would be unsettling to say the least.

What would lead him to even think about uniforms? Do you have an office skank that is dressing inappropriately? If so, the rest of you need to gang up on her and help her change.

Well, just think, if he implements this policy, you all can just start calling your office Mickey "insert lawyers name" here. Because I really feel uniforms belong in the military, police & McDonalds, but not my lawyers office.

I think it looks unprofessional for a law office. It looks like the employees aren't trusted to make clothing decisions for themselves, like somebody screwed up along the way and wore daisy dukes to court and ruined it for everyone else.

Phoenix, Wise Guru
Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Honestly... I want my attorney to look like a bad___, well, you get the point! My father is a lawyer, and to me he'll always "look like one." I think making the firm go to "uniforms" not only makes the firm look like a crock, but also you. I'd get out of there if the partners move forward with this idea.
