A good rule of thumb is that if it looks too good to be true then that's what it is, sadly though there are still people who fall for scams like these. |

I just got this earlier today virtually the same except that the promotions managers name was different.
Anyone who DOES get sucked in by this should have their computer surgically removed from them because they really aren't safe to be on line!! |

Unfortunately, lottery scam e-mails are likely to continue. They cost next to nothing for the scammers to send out, so even if 99.9% of the recipients delete the pitch and only a few actually send the scammers any money, it's still a profitable venture as far as the scammers are concerned.
People in general need to just get a few basic facts through their heads:
1) Microsoft doesn't sponsor a lottery. (And neither do Yahoo, MSN, Google, etc.)
2) If you didn't enter a lottery by buying a ticket, there's no possible way you could have won.
3) If you win the lottery for real, the obligation is on you to contact their officials and provide proof that you're a winner. They're not going to go looking for you!
4) Also, if you're American, It's illegal for you as an American citizen to participate in lotteries that are based overseas. So there's no way you could win a lottery claiming to be based in the UK (for example).
If you're not from the USA, #4 above may not apply to you, but 1 through 3 still do. |

It's amazing how many people fall for these things and end up losing thousands of dollars/pounds/euros, etc
All anyone has to do is a quick google search to see how many scams are out there. |

It is a scam, 100%. Do not fall for it. I usually email these people back a very insulting response. |

Because there's a fool born every minute, and plenty of people are so stupid/desperate for this fantasy lifestyle of millions of dollars and not having to work that they'll believe anything. |

But they arent convincing at all... not only do you not get entered in a competition AFTER it has been held, but also just check out the sent from address. |

Oh i hate those, and that forwarded email that was going around, all of my friends are dumb so i got it a million times "forward this to 10 people and bill gates will give you £100 for real" something or other. Idiots! |

what is the actual email address (not the display address) of the sender of the email? That is the quickest way to spot frauds.
It doesn't look "real" to me, but that is because I know that Gates doesn't sponsor contests.
And, I also know that money does not fall from the sky.
