Interviews check for several things:
Experience. You can put what you want on a resume, but until they speak with you about it, they can't be sure of the extent in which you are experienced with that subject.
Intelligence. If you seem like an idiot, you probably are one. If you don't seem like you can handle what the job requires, then why would someone hire you?
Communication skills. They want to see if you can talk to others, understand what others are saying, and if you can follow directions. Some interviewers test for this, some just observe your behavior and speech during a conversation.
Personality. Sometimes they want someone who is assertive, opinionated and organized. Sometimes they want someone who is easy to talk to and cheery. Sometimes they want someone who is ok with being alone for several hours at a time.
Cleanliness. You can make a bad impression with your appearance. It indicates that you're not serious enough about this job and you may be a bit lazy or have bad manners. Somethings that can turn an interview sour are: a shirt that is too low cut, wearing jeans, too much make-up or perfume, wearing shorts or an old tee shirt, flipflops, your hair isn't brushed or your breath smells.
I'm sure there are more points to be made. I'm not an interviewer, I train people in customer service and sales. |
