Mark | 18 years old, where can I apply for a credit card? |
It seems that everything on the internet revolves around having a credit card. Even "all-age" video games with online subscriptions. Ironic there. It's just that I don't have a credit card and I feel uncomfortable about asking people that I know since there's usually an issue of privacy there - as there would be.
Anyways, I'm 18 years old, and I want a credit card that I can use for simple purchases that I can pay off easily. Nothing over $40.00, and because I also heard that if you get into the knack of easily keeping your credit card paid off, you get good credit.
My bank rejected my interest and said that I had to be 19, yet I see all of these commercials on TV for special deals for 16 year olds and such. Sounds really odd to me.
Would appreciate any insight. |

Try with some type of student card first. For example, American Express blue student. |

Technically, you can't have a credit card until you are 18. A contract is required to extend credit, and you must be 18 to have a contract be legal. Capital One, is usually the first credit card company for most people. They will probably give you a $200 limit. You are right about establishing credit. It is important, if not essential for this to be successful in life. Make your payments on time every month for 1 year and they will lower your rate, and extend your credit to say maybe $500. Keep it up and every 6 months try to extend your credit. If you keep it up, you will have great credit and you can buy things like a house in no time at all.
Try Capital One, if they don't give you a card, no one probably will. |

There's no reason that you can't use a debit card with a visa or mastercard logo and not have to worry about annual fees or interest. Many retail establishments sell pre-paid and reloadable credit cards (read the fine print). There's also secured credit cards where nobody but you and your bank know that they are secured cards. Check out bankrate.com for unbiased information on credit cards, offers, fees, etc. |

You might want to start out small. Apply for a credit card at Best Buy or Sears and build your credit a bit so when you apply for a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, etc. you'll get a better deal. |

Go to the nearest college, you'll find a ton of them unfortunately. Or try the other banks in your area. Do the applications a couple months apart so you don't jack up the inquiries right away. |

There is a company where you can choose the credit card you want to apply for (from their list). When you register with this company, you also get a link you can advertise to others (on or offline) and you get paid from the company when they sign up and apply for a credit card as well.
The company is called Free Card Matrix. You can take a look at what it entails at http://tinyurl.com/4uudkv
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Good luck!
