No, you are not poor. Your dad makes a good salary. People spend their money on what they value, so maybe your parents don't feel they need fancy cars. Maybe they don't want to look like pretentious, shallow snobs. Good for them. Everyone has their own priorities. People spend and save their money the way they see fit. Don't forget that even though your dad makes a good salary, you still need to work hard in school so that you can take care of yourself when you are on your own.

Believe me that is a lot, but it sounds like they are very careful with money and are probably stashing most of it away for retirement. And when they hit retirement they will be having a great time, that is for sure!

Yes, that's a lot of money. Your parents may not be showoffs and don't want to flaunt their wealth. They may have other debts like a huge mortgage, helping support other family members, or just want to have a low profile.

You may be joking with YA though.

TheShankmaster
Of course your'e not poor, you moron. People live on way less than that.

Are u serious? Your dad is in the top 1% of earners in this country, so by those standards, you're rich!

mkaykodie
That is a lot of money, but have you tried considering they may be trying to save for your education, or they might be the type of people who don't like to show off. Don't be confused I am sure they have a purpose for everything they are doing and it may benefit you.

butterfly234
your dad may make that kind of money, but does not blow it on cars or houses which is goodl, which probably means he has some saved up and is smart with his money. Your parents sound like they are doing pretty good.

You are poor. However your mom and dad are well off. It's not weird that they do not drive nice cars. You do not have to live beyond your means just because you make alot of money.

not that much where i live. but about the car thing, i know these people, and one time we were looking at their movie library and there was a plack, and it was like blah blah blah, 10 million shares valued at 100 dollars each, and we were like what the ****...holy **** we didnt know u were this rich. so we asked the dad and he was liek oh yeah and didnt even pay it any attention

This is actually a good lesson for you and a reminder for the rest of us: You can't tell who really has KEPT their money by looking at how they SPENT money. The folks with brand new Mercedes might have so many loans out they have a negative net worth, and the average-looking dude in a six-year-old pickup might be a multimillionaire.

Look at some research like in the "Millionaire Next Door" and you'll see that people who build up a significant net worth are often careful with their money like your dad. And a lot of the others are just pimped-out showoffs with bills to pay.
