obviously you dont have debt - I am a middle aged single female earning a take home pay of £170 per week, my rent is £72pw, council tax £20pw = £92, which leaves me £78pw to live on, my electricity which I do not use much heating is £15pw leaving me £63 for travel, food, and clothes. I would be better off unemployed. |

I've got loads of debt, but like the other people who've posted above me, it's from trying to get by as a single parent on a meagre salary.
I try very hard not to spend money, because I know I don't have it. But I have to feed and clothe my daughter, I have to pay my bills, put a roof over our heads, and I have to try and pay off my loan & credit cards.

i am in debt, my ex went to court and told lies when i moved away from the area (200 miles), so he could get the kids, my solicitor told me to beg and borrow so i could travel to see them every weekend, it was 6 months befor the case went to court and i got my kids back, i had to pay for traveling and accomodation. if i hadnt of done this i would not have been able to see them and they would not be with me now. i now travel half the distance to make sure my kids see their dad he pays for petrol but no child support! |

most people in debt are'nt in debt by choice but by neccesity to survive. me and my missus work damn hard and ended up in debt as banks have a habit of lying and trying to steal money. if you have a job or money banks will always try and find a way of taking it off you and trust me on this they're very good at it. |

I agree with casper. My debt is from splitting with my partner. I had to find a house, furniture etc with no money. I work full time and have 2 children. We dont have anything flash at all, my car is on its last legs (or wheels) too.
Slowly but surely I am paying off my debt, but unexpected things crop up, like a burst pipe in my bathroom (that my insurance refused to pay for).
I know people like you are describing, but most of the people in debt are just there because of the situation, not because they are spendaholics |

Don't be so narrow minded. I'm in debt but certainly don't have a Merc in the drive. I work full time and my debt has slowly built up over the years just trying to survive. Maybe I should have been more careful but its an expensive world we live in. You should just shut up, and stop being such a snob |
