A bank called on me on a sunday for a debt payment is this allowed?

Lord Charles
Sure.....although I'm also sure that they have probably tried you during the week but been able to get hold of you. Maybe they think you are avoiding them.

Do you owe the debt? Then yes.

pauljreiter
I'm guessing the company is outsourcing debt collection to India so it is in fact Monday.

Pay the money or get caller ID.

It depends on the rules of your state. Check your attorney generals website.

Were you allowed to owe them money on a Sunday?

onandonandonanon
Sounds like a scam! Hope you didn't give them any information!!!

Sure it is legal, if you owe the money, and they can't get you at any other time.

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act only applies to debt collectors and collection agencies. The original creditor is not bound by it UNLESS it is the collection arm of the original creditor and there is no indication of a third party ("any officer or employee of a creditor while, in
the name of the creditor, collecting debts for such
creditor;"). However, I would suggest that you check the local statutes in your state to see if they have any additional protections regarding the time and day that creditors may call.

As long as they are calling at a reasonable time, then I don't think that there is much that you can do about it.

Good luck.

Absolutely yes they can. They will also keep calling you until the bill is paid.

Debtors are allowed to call Sunday - Saturday from 8am to 9pm. If you owe the debt, they can call you.

Yes it is.

jordan22_98
Yeah, unfortunately they can call whenever they want. Even on Sundays.. which is new but it's starting to pop up more and more frequently!

suzanne g
idk about "allowed" but very unusual for banks to call at all - they normally send you something in the mail. I'd suspect some scam.

Yes, the legal times they can call are every day, between your local times of 8am and 9pm. I know this sucks, but they can even call you on a holiday (ie-Christmas, many debt collectors pay their employees big overtime bonuses if they work the holidays).

The only way they CANNOT call is if you send them a Cease and Desist letter, stating that they are only to comunicate in writing.

shiprepairwoman
Sure why wouldn't it be? If you paid them they wouldn't call you at all.
