A collection is deleted from my credit report, do I still have to pay them?
I made a settlement with a collection company, I did some research on the web and decided to dispute them on my credit bureau, 30 days later the credit bureau deleted the collection account from my record. In the meantime I made arrangements with to pay them off. Do I still have to pay them even though they are not on my credit report?

Yes, you should pay them.

While disputing the reporting on a credit report may get the entry removed, it isn't a permanent fix. Unlike what a previous answerer stated, the creditor who "lost" the ability to report (probably because they didn't respond to the credit bureau in time) CANNOT report again. The credit bureau typically doesn't allow it or removes it when they notice.

However, if the collection agency sells the debt to another agency, then the new agency can report it, as they now own your debt.

The reason you should pay it is because there is always a likelihood the collection agency can send the debt to an attorney instead of a new collection agency, and the attorney may pursue legal action, in addition to reporting to your credit report.

Yes. Your credit report does not affect whether or not you are required to pay.

If you made a settlement offer, you have probably acknowledged the debt and restarted the Statute of Limitations (SOL). The creditor can sue if you don't pay as agreed.

Also, the item may have been deleted temporarily but it could indeed be put back on your credit report if it is still within the 7-1/2 year reporting period.

Credit report information does not necessarily reflect what is or is not a legal debt.

If it is actually a collection company, ask them to validate the debt and send you a copy of the contract that you signed with them for this account. Tell then that you researched the account and cannot find anything that shows that you owe this. They cannot prove this becasue you never signed anything with them. They will tell you that they are collecting for the original account holder. Chances are that the original account holder charged it off which by law they have to do after 6 months. Once they have charged it off their insurance pays them in full and the account is zero out. They sell these "fiat" accounts for 10 cents on the dollar and then the colledtion companies say they bought the rights to collect which is a lie because the original account was paid in full by the insurance company. Therefore cannot collect legally. I work for a credit attorney.

Yep..you owe...

The debt still exists. It makes no difference if it shows on the credit report. For example, if you had a personal, unsecured debt from a friend. That would not be on your credit report. But, you would still owe the money.

They have the option of re-instating the negative information if you do not follow through and pay them as agreed, Yes.
