Please don't think this about me. I am a junior in college. This man is 51-years-old, lives in a three bed-room, one-story house, in a neighborhood where the average income has to be $45,000 a year or less. He donates 15% of his income to charity. |

The issue isn't how much you make but what you do with it. There are in fact some people who make well into six figures who give most of it away. Then again, there are people with five-figure credit card debt who owe more than they make in a year.
What would I do if I made $900K a year? I'd give 10 percent of it to area churches, and put most of the rest of it into a fund to help others in my community. How much money does a person really need to live comfortably? Not much at all. The real issue isn't "comfort" but, in my opinion, absolutely stupid expenses. Who needs the latest, biggest plasma-screen TV when it will be technologically obsolete in two years? Who needs the most expensive brands of food when store brands are just as good and much cheaper? Who needs to buy a bigger house in a neighborhood where too many houses have been abandoned because of the mortgage mess in this country? In other words, making more money doesn't do anyone any good if a person is making stupid decisions with the money they have. It's much better, and will give a person much fewer migraines, if they use wisely what they have instead of foolishly throwing away more just because they have more. |

You know... I've had 300 dollar fish, and wished it was the 15 dollar fish at my favorite restaurant. I've drank some pretty tasty (read: expensive) wine, and a few weeks later gotten a much better buzz off of the Mickey's 6 pack for 4 bucks at the local corner store.
I grew up in an average house, but saw my fathers finances pay off to what we're talking about, so I've seen both lifestyles.
It doesn't matter how much money you make. You're either an asshole, or you're not (THANKS DAD... that's another section and question lol =X) . Judging how you mention he donates and you're trying to protect this guy, you obviously look up to him.
So you ask what I say to that?... I return and ask :
Why do you care what others think about someone who has money? Are you seeking approval? Maybe some jaws open and Oos and awws?
Without asking I question back, however, I say
I envision them being born, living a life, and dying, just like you and me. |
