Although these offers tend to have higher interest rates (and additional fees) when compared to 'standard' credit cards, they'll give you the opportunity to prove your credit worthiness and build your credit score. Eventually, with regular on-time payments-- you'll be able to qualify for better offers with lower APR's and less fees. But for now... these are your options...

Consider that a blessing. Credit cards are nothing but trouble, don't get one you will regret it. Just remember, if you don't have the cash to buy it, you can't afford it. If you have to charge it you can't afford it. They are BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD news.......don't get one. Get a debit card from your bank. Gives you the feeling of a credit card, only if you don't have the money in your account you can't buy anything. Which brings me back to what I said earlier, if you can't pay cash for it, you can't afford it and shouldn't buy it! |

Ok this is what you dont apply anymore with any stores ...let 6 mos go by......when and everytime you get declined you fico scores come down so if you dont have credit its just going to be twice as hard to even get any credit at all.....so this is what you do!!!
Go to a jewlery store, anywere were you wont be denied and buy the cheapest item in the store and put it on credit make the minimum payment and sooon you will have credit to apply in a retail store if declined again then let another six mos. go by until you are ready to apply again! |

IT is a catch-22, can't get credit cause no history, can't get history without a card.
YOu can do this two ways, one get a secured card (where youopen an account and they keep your money, then issue a card with that limit); or you can get an auto loan - typically more lenient as they can come get the car. Technically both are loans with collateral. |

Its rough to get that first card. Go out and buy a tv or something like that and finance it. This will start building you a credit rating. Be careful on those out there that say not credit needed. Read the small print very closley.
Buy something on credit first then apply for credit card after 6months or 1 yr. |

store credit cards like macy's or jc penney's
store cards have a more relaxed policy on giving cards
make payments on time once you get one
and then try to get your major card
you have to establish a history of payin and making payments
on time.
don't try to apply for too many cards at once
as that looks bad on your credit report as well
always pay your bills on time
and try not to over use your credit cards
you can't make a creditor give you a card
you must prove to them you are credit worthy for one

you can get a secure credit card or even try one that has an annual fee. you dont have to keep it forever just kind of get your foot in the door. once u have one card everyone will send you apps for their cards. |

Are you a student? Apply for a Student MasterCard or Visa with your local college, Bank or Credit Union? Or you can establish a Secured Credit Card first with a Bank such as Wells Fargo or Bank of America among others. You make a deposit say for $300 and you get an official Visa or MasterCard and then your repayment history gets reported to the major credit bureaus and after a few months the Bank drops the security deposit. Be patient once you get a card you will get other solicitations. Do you have a job? Employment history? etc.? These will all help you also in obtaining credit from a Department Store or Gasoline Station credit card. Remember to use credit wisely and establish a budget for your income and expenses. Try applying for a gas station card or a different credit card.
But be careful once you do get one, only use it for convenience and pay it off in full every single month!! Once you get in debt it is very hard to get out. |

At 18 you really don't NEED a credit card and you are better off without one. If you do what 90% of people your age do, you are just going to pile up a huge debt that you can't afford to pay off. But to answer your question, try to get like a SEARS store credit card, buy a piece of bubble gum with it, and pay it off. Then next month buy another piece of gum and pay it off again. Then you will have a credit history. But understand how credit cards work first, they should only be used as a tool to manage money, not a means to buy things you can't otherwise afford. If you can't pay for it out of your regular checking account, then you also can't afford to just charge it on your credit card. Don't make the mistake ALMOST EVERYONE does, and listen to the older people here who KNOW. CANT U SEE THAT I'M PLEADING WITH YOU SINCE I'M TYPING IN ALL CAPS??? Emergencies and small things you can pay off each month ONLY!!! |
