No offense, but if you don't know, you probably shouldn't have one. Just give the card to the retailer and they will swipe it. You sign the ticket and you are off to the races. You will receive a bill for it at the end of the month - make sure that you keep the balance below 40% of your credit limit.

Use it to get yourself a little extra time to pay off purchases or for shopping online and then pay off the full amount every month. That's how you should use one but not how any of us do! :-( |

Responsibly.
You can use a credit card for everyday purchases like gas, groceries etc. Never exceed 40% of your limit in any one month and make sure that you pay off the balance every month in full. Mail your payments well in advance of the due date to make sure and avoid late fees and interest charges.
Never, never, never charge anything that you can not pay for in 90-days or less. |

If you want to get a good credit rating you should use your credit card sensibly and within a budget you are comfortable with, and most importantly pay the bill in FULL every month.
If you are worried about the limit that has been set for you, you can ask it to be reduced.
I however use my credit cards to buy things that my conscience will not let me buy with my debit card such as expensive Champagne in nightclubs and stuff that I really don't need! |
