Citi® Bronze®/AAdvantage® MasterCard®is by far the most widely used card. It is essential for regular travelers with average credit. Its reward program gives you an additional mile per $2 spent on the card. You can collect up to 25,000 miles annually, and can be redeemed for flights on partner airlines, hotel accommodations throughout the world, and car rentals. Additional benefits are: zero liability for unauthorized transactions, travel accident insurance and various Internet account associated services. The card does not charge any annual fee. But the drawback is the minimum APR cap for cash advances, set at 19.99%. |

Actually, I think the other advice isn't really what you need.
Credit cards are not really necessary to life these days. A debit card from your bank will allow all of the conveniences of a credit card without the impending debt.
You can still build credit in other ways. Paying landlords, utilities, and other bills on time help provide credit references for you. Plus, when you eventually have a mortgage loan, it will further build your positive credit history.
You said your score is high now, and you have a low income. This would be a terrible time to get yourself into a lot of credit card debt. Many people are working very hard to get out of the mess you're trying to get in.
Maybe you could figure out ways to boost your income instead. |

Apply online for prepaid credit card.
The rejection is non existent in case of prepaid credit cards, there are no credit checks, no employment verification, and approval is guaranteed.
With a bit of dilligent shopping and comparision of various prepaid credit card offers, it is not difficult to find a prepaid card with no annual fees, no late payment fees, no repayments, and no penalties whatsoever. So, the ownership costs of a prepaid card can be negligible.
With prepaid cards it is very easy to promote financial discipline. Since you can only spend what you have, there is no overspending, and hence no debts.
Some prepaid cards do report their use to major credit bureaus and hence are a good instrument to rebuild credit history.
Prepaid cards have wide acceptablility, and in some cases they are even more readily accepted than credit cards. Apply online at: http://www.squidoo.com/prepaid-credit-card |

You say your credit score is 770 and then say that you have a credit card but it is in your parents name. I am assuming that you meet the legal age requirement for your state (usually 21 years or older) to apply for credit on your own.
First, let me point out that your credit score is only one of several criteria that banks analyze for granting credit. Banks also look for a stable source of income, the proportion of income already compromised by previous debt, and other factors. Several things may be happening here:
1. If the only credit product you have is your parents' credit card you may not have a credit history for the bank to base their decision on. The fact that you have a credit score is mostly meaningless if your status is that of a 'card holder', as opposed to an 'account owner'. Your option is to look for a credit card specifically designed for people without prior credit history. All three main credit card issuers have such programs, with credit criteria established for the particular needs of each segment. (For example: student cards, supermarket and co-branded cards, affinity programs for members of numerous non-profits or trade associations, etc. If you have a checking & savings account and maintain a deposits balance, you may apply for a reserve line of credit tied to a Visa or MasterCard debit card. Every time you use your debit card, it draws from your checking account, but its activity is reported as a revolving Visa or MasterCard credit card. This helps build your credit history. A secured Visa/MC is similar, but your credit line is tied to a collateral deposit, which is held at the bank. Otherwise, you may build your credit history through a retail store credit card or similar financing, such as computer, appliance, etc directly with the merchant.)
2. You have balances on other credit products, such as loans, cars, etc. that may be compromising your ability to make payments on the new card or that may prevent you from having enough money to cover basics (such as groceries) after paying the monthly installments. Most banks require that at least 40-50% of your gross monthly income remain free from debt after making all monthly payments, especially if your income is limited.
3. You meet credit history criteria and have a steady income, but requested a line of credit too high for your income. In this case you will receive a counter offer from the bank with an offer for a lower line of credit.
In any case, a bank is required by law to send you in writing a notice that contains the reasons for the denial of credit. With it you are entitled to request a copy of your credit history report at all of the credit bureaus. If there's any incorrect information on your credit report (for exampe: debts that do not belong to you that may be affecting your debt-to-income ratio), you have the right to have it corrected, provided you submit the necessary evidence to support your claim.
Hope this helps! |
