Advice on establishing credit?
I'll be 19 years old come May. I am a freshman in college and I have about $11,000 in the bank in stocks and other areas. It's making me some nice interest. My current job brings me about $700 every month. Paying bills isn't a problem for me because i literally don't spend my money on anything except the absolute necessary. I have a debit card but rarely use it as it is. But i've been thinking about getting a credit card to help establish my credit for when it comes time to buy my house, new car, etc. Any ideas about a decent card without any monthly fees? I need something that won't charge me if i don't use it often or not at all. I don't want anything with a huge credit line but at the same time i want to be able to establish myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm not a financial analyst, but I work for a work credit card company. Good to see a young adult thinking responsibly about credit. You've got a good head on your shoulders.
One place you can start is with a small bank card; however, nearly all will charge you a membership fee (annual or monthly), if you have no previous credit. You may want to start with a small store card- Target, Kohls, Circuit City, etc. Don't open a huge line of credit, just several hundred (if that). Pay your bills on time and the rest will follow.
One place you can go to get an idea for want you may qualify for is http://www.capitalone.com. They have a tool there that allows you to create your own credit card- credit line, APR, rewards, etc.
See this site for more tips: http://smartbucks.blogspot.com

if you open a credit card...use it to buy groceries, gas and all your other necessities. then at the end of the month, pay off the balance. This way, you are using your card every month to avoid any fees AND building your credit at the same time. By paying it off at each months end, you are also avoiding finance charges.

Whatever card you get make sure you pay it in full each month or you could get yourself in deep water.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS GET A CREDIT CARD AND MAKE A $400 BALANCE TO MAKE LOW PAYMENTS AND DO THEM ON TIME. ALSO GET LOANS LIKE $2000, AND WAIT FOR LIKE 3 MONTHST AND PAY IT OFF[ DONT WASTE THE $2000] . DOES DEVELOPES YOUR CREDIT GRADUALLY. ALSO GET CREDIT CARDS FROM BEST BUY, OFFICE MAX, BP, ETC. MAKE LITTLE PAYMENTS AND WASTE LITTLE ON THEM. THE MORE PAYMENTS ON TIME THE BETTER!
JUST TAKE CARE OF YOUR SELF AND DONT MAKE BIG MISTAKES, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW YOU LIVING IN A EXCELLENT ECONOMIC STATUS.

you could build credit by getting a small personal loan and pay it off in a few months another way is by getting a credit card use it for your daily usage but pay it off at the end of the month that way you do not pay interest and build credit, once you have had this card for a while apply for a better one because most of the time credit cards that you will get approve for when you do not have credit have high interest rates but it will be only on your first card if you take care of your credit, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under poor or no credit section, good luck

Actually, you dont even need a card. You could get a loan for any amount and pay that off over time. That will definately give you credit. Or go to www.creditcardguide.com to compare different cards. Some cards are for people with certain levels of credit so just chose one that is for establishing. Good luck!

Discover is awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome. You get cashback bonuses, their interest rates are reasonable, and it's a favorite of students and older people alike.

Don't even bother with outfits like Capital One, who'll approve almost anybody but give low credit lines. For example..I had 2 of their cards. One had like a $2500 credit line, the other something pathetic like $300. Mind you, my credit score is in the high 700s and I have a good income, good enough to justify a larger line. Granted, I didn't ask them, but I didn't have to: Discover came along and offered me a $15K line. I closed both Capital Ones, transferring my balances to them (0% APR until Sept. 08) and haven't looked back.

And unlike Capital One, Discover has no annual fee.

What's in my wallet? Not Capital One.

capital one is the easiest card to get but there is a couple of dollars for an annual fee usually less than 49 i think as low as 19 and you will receive some automatic ways to raise your credit limit just by paying a couple months on time

American Express is a great card and you pay no interest however full balance is due at the end of the month. Since you have your spending habits in control this is a great card. Visit our website www.ncnlcorp.com hope this helps...

The quickest way to get a cc in your case is to put some cash in your bank in a special account.

They'll give you a cc for that amount.
