After I pay my debts, how long does it take for my credit to rise substantially?
I will pay off all of my debts in 6 months. Will my credit go up immediately after they're off of the books?

Banks, etc...send reports once a month to the big three credit reporting agencies. If you have multiple cards, pay them off so that you are under 50% of the max credit amount allowed first, then work on paying off the one with the highest credit, make ALL payments on time, do not apply for other cards or loans-everytime you do, your credit score goes down, get rid of all cards when paid down, except maybe one-and don't have too high of a max credit limit, deposit money into a savings account so they can see you do have some, go to bank and take out a 90 day "note" of a few hundred dollars and then make those payments. Your credit score should then go up to or near 600. It doesn't take as long as what people say. Collection reports do stay on for 7 years, but that doesn't mean much in my experience. My credit has been up and down a few times and it always bounced back within a year or two.

the key is to pay bills on time.paying off your bills is nice but what they look for is stability and ability to pay each month on time. If you pay each month on time and are not loaded down with debt.they go by what your yearly income is vs your debt and what your new loan would be in conjunction to that. they want to be comfortable in knowing your abilty to pay is there. you know if you need a loan you cant get one but if you are filthy rich and dont need a loan then they will loan you the money. Its crazy aint it?

It could take months up to a couple years. There is no set calculation that says how many points it will change over a certain amount of time.

With all other things being equal, as you pay off your debts, your credit will change to some extent on at least a monthly basis.

Depends on what we are talking about here. If you are talking about paying off old debts that have gone into collection, the answer is that it will go up a little, but the collection notice stays on your report for 7 years. If you are talking about paying off current debt , then it could go either way.

Just having debt doesnt make your credit score worse. Its how you mange the debt that makes your score what it is. Paying off a credit card that is maxxed out ussualy helps your score though.
