Probably unless you want to charge him with theft, being an adult he could go to jail,

This may require a counselor and he should be forced to pay, and pay rent if he doesn't.

So many men live at home and rob their folks or feel the world owes them a living.

What he did is a felony, get him to understan that and the cosequences

What the others said is hypotheically true but it is your credit rating that will suffer if you don't apy the amount charged. The creditor doesn't care about your domestic problems, it runs like a machine

Unless you co-sign or participated in perpetrating a fraud by providing false income documents etc ,

You are not liable .

No you are not. If you didn't sign it or agreed to be a co-signer then that is not your responsibility.

No, you are not responsible.

However, the collections agency will do anything in their power to get you to pay off that debt. They do not care who pays it, and will harass as many people as it takes to get the job done. Don't get scammed into taking care of your grown child's debts. Just because they are acting like a kid doesn't mean you have to take care of them still.

Good luck, and SEND NO MONEY PERIOD!

No. your child is an adult. If you didn't co-sign you have no worries.

No,they can not do anything to you unless you sign some paper work said you will pay as a co-sign.Trust me.

how much debt?
Credit cards can play nasty games especially with young people who don't know how to play the game in reverse. They feed like sharks on chum with 20somethings.

Get your "child" into a course called Financial Peace University. he may have to take on multiple jobs to pay off the debt. Make sure he cuts up the cards, check his/her mail for him/her and make sure he/she has no more debts hanging out..

I've been down this road since I was his age. My wife and I got sick and tired of being slaves to credit and credit card companies. We've paid off 50k in the last 3 years and are about 4 years away from being debt free.

He can make arrangements to pay if he contacts the companies, if he ignores them they can maybe try to go after other sources. If they find out he's living with parents they might tell you that you need to pay it for him. Don't bite.

help him by educating him.

It is not your responsibility to pay this debt if you did not co-sign.

his debt is his debt. If you are not his cosigner, and do not have your name on any of his credit reports, your not responsible. the only thing you share in this case is your address.
hold him accountable.

no, you are not responsible since your name isn't on it and you did not co-sign.

However, if the credit card company is filing a judgement
make the credit card company validate the debt, if they
can't validate the debt and file a judgment, make sure
your 21 year old shows up in court or the credit card
company will win by default

Unless you an authorized user of the card, no you are not liable for any debt incurred by an adult child.

If you are an authorized signer on the account, while the creditor can't force you to pay, they CAN, and WILL, report this to the 3 major credit reporters, where it WILL be shown on your credit reports.
