legaleye2005 | Am I responsible for my girlfriend's credit card that is in my name (she is additional cardholder)? |
Her name is actually on the card... If we break up and she does not pay it, can I go after her legally? Additional Details She has a totally separate card eventhough she is on my account so you can actually keep track of how much she racks up... I'm just wondering if something were to happen, could I take that as "proof" and could I sue her, or is this type of law suit usually worthless...? |

You are responsible for all charges on your card that are made by an authorized user. If you break up, the first thing you should do is call the credit card company and have her card cancelled.
BTW, if she is only an authorized user on your individual account, her credit will not be affected by running up charges you cannot pay. |

The primary card holder is responsible for all its extension cards. If you are at the level of relationship where you are considering the possibility of legal action, then you should not have agreed or offered such arrangement. You can sue but it will be a very difficult case. |

If all you did was add her as an authorized user (and had a card issued in her name) she's not liable. At all.
You can go to small claims and sue, sayin she promised to pay it back, but thats the only way. If she didn't promise to pay it back, you have no claim.
Cancel the card in her name NOW. |

You ae responsible if you are the prime card holder. You could go after her but it would be difficult as you have effectively said that she is a signaturary on your credit card. Try and persuade her to get her own. |

You will be responsible for 100% of all transactions made on that card if you are the primary card holder. If you break up the creditor can go after both of you for 100% of the debt. But being you are the primary you have a recourse against her where as she does not you. Advice - keep a copy of the bills and any payment receipts you do on her behalf :) |

you are totally responsible it's your account so the court will consider it some kind of "gift" to her |

It depends on the individual laws of your state.
I'm assuming she is an authorized user on your credit card account and that a card was issued for her. You are responsible for all charges made by individuals that you "authorize" to charge on your account. As the primary account holder you would have had to request that the card company issue her card and by doing such agreed to be held solely responsible for any and all charges made by her. Sorry !! |

why did you put her on your card? never do this unless you are married...even then...dont do it.
Yes you are responsible for every penny...you can sue her for what she racks up, but all she has to say is.."I didnt use the card" You have no proof, unless of course she bought female things like make up and crap...but if she bought a TV, chances are you cant convince a judge that YOU didnt buy it yourself |

yes you are the primary card holder. Legallly you are screwed since you allowed her to get a card. Dont ever do this is you have the least bit of apprension. God bless Been there and will never do that again |

If you got the card for her, it's your debt and you would be responsible. This is a real bad idea. |
