An ex has really ruined my credit rating and now nobody will look at me for a cred card, any ideas?
I didn't know the extent of the damage she had caused until it was too late but now even those really high interest cards won't even accept my application. Prepaid cards are not what I am looking for. Any help would be most appreciated.

Why do you want a credit card??? they will only get you into debt more. Take to a financial advisor and see how you can manage without a credit card, it will be worth it in the end.

OriginalBubble
Try Vanquis, they specialise in people with bad debts.
Or if you just need a temp money solution try getting a pay day loan, they dont do a credit check at all.

if your credit rating has beed ruined there isn't a whole lot you can do, if you've been with your bank for quite a while then try with them, you still might have a good credit scoring with them, you can try an experian credit report for a small fee, that could tell you your actual credit scoring, unfortunatly tho, all defects to your credit scoring can last 3 - 5 years and there is no real way to change this.

go to www.experian.co.uk where you can get a copy of your credit record and see where she has done the damage. I would maybe bring that report to a credit expert who might suggest contacting the institutions involved and seeing if they can help you any.

you can file a personal statement on your credit reports, explaining what you ex-husband did. it could not hurt. other then that, you can try disputing them, but that about it.

Go to a credit union and re-establish yourself. They will help you fix your credit. Debt card, auto deposit, and electronic bill pay can salvage your credit and make you eligible for credit union sponsored loans and credit cards.

It is wise of you not to use prepaid cards. Most of them are scams anyway. Not all, but most.

There are several strategies available to you though I cannot be sure which to tell you about without more information. So I will give you some general education.

The fastest and easiest way is through credit restoration. You will have many people tell you that they are illegal or scams, but there are three in the US who are reputable, legal and have been in business for many years. One of them even offers a money back guarantee. If you want to read an article about how to tell the difference between scams and legits, goto this url: http://groups.google.com/group/managingyourcredit
The thing you need to ask the naysayers is this, what do you have against me saving money on interest? You will probably find that most of the naysayers shut up because they are money lenders. They don't want you to know that you can restore your credit because they want you to pay higher interest rates.
The rest of the people are people who haven't taken the time to educate themselves properly and are only repeating what someone else has said. Americans are very bad about that. We tend to not think for ourselves when there is someone out there willing to do our thinking for us. And then we wonder why our country is in the sorry state...
Well that's another topic for another question. Moving on...

You can try it the more traditional way and just accept defeat and ride it out for the next seven years. This will do no harm at all and will pay off in the long run. And in a couple of years you will start receiving offers for high interest credit cards again anyway as the value of the damage currently on your credit report decreases with age. Remember, no more than three credit cards ever.

And you can always file for bankruptcy. Under the new laws, I would personally not recommend it, though.

If you have any questions regarding credit issues you may email me at nebula7693@yahoo.com

I am sorry to hear that.
Why don't you check your credit rating free on line. If you think there are wrong information then you could correct it.

How has she ruined your credit rating - you must have had a joint account - in which case you have no legal argument because you shouldn't have let it happen.

Or did she steal the card from you and use it without your knowledge - if so then that is fraud and a police matter.

You are now a credit risk and anybody who gives you credit be very wary of, don't phone any company who is in the smal ads because the charge very high interest rates, and don't go to Norton Finance or any of the loan adverts on TV!
