Any good loan advice out there?
I've got a fixed loan from Natwest that I took out earlier this year to consolidate various bits and bobs. It was for £15,000 but with interest over 5 years I'm going to pay £22,000.

Paying off 374 a month which is quite tough, but looking to whack more at it to get rid of it quicker.

What I keep asking Natwest (who fail to give me a straight answer) - will I end up paying less if I keep whacking a chunk at it every few months? They said I'll pay it off sooner - that goes without saying - but will the interest recalculate automatically, so I won't have to end up paying the full £22,000?

Does anyone else have a similar loan and be able to answer my question?

Thanks!

The South Will Rise Again
what you need to do is every 12 month get the amount owed re added with the new amounts left to get the less intrest on it

Hibee
There may be reference to this in the paperwork you signed when you took out the loan.

If not, and if they refuse to answer your queries, tell them you are going to write to Jessica Investigates, in the Daily Telegraph. That should shift them

Did you take out payment protection insurance? Did they tell you you needed PPI? If they did then you have grounds for miss-selling. On a loan of 15k the PPI will be high. Have a look at Moneysavingexpert.com. He tells you how to go about claiming this back. If you pay back a loan early then you would pay less interest. I doubt the bank would be interested in calculating what you owe every time you pay something extra. Email me if I can help any further.

Depends on waht you signed up for. If you are paying interest on the outstanding balance then more payments means less interest.

If, as is often the case, you have agreed to pay off a fixed amount over a fixed period then the Early Settlement Regs will apply and you will have to pay a proportion of the cost of credit.

These regs are complex and you will need to see a debt councellor or other financial advisor (use voluntary not private who will charge)

After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online. Credit cards are charge cards where all your-->purchases are charged to your account. Before applying for one, allow yourself to learn as much information as possible, including the policies pertaining to a particular usage.
