Pay your bills on time.

aybabtu
Pay your bills on time. Quit buying crap you can't afford on credit. That should do it.

Mike
Pay your bills on time, every time. Catch up on any past-dues.

Depends on what is showing on your credit file. If you have charge offs you will need to get those paid off. If you have slow pay, you will need to start making payments on time over a period of time till the bill is completely paid for. In other words start paying your bills as scheduled over a long length of time. Eventually your credit score will get better. Also don't open more credit, pay off what you have outstanding with timely payment, Stop making credit applications at different places. When an account is paid off don't use it anymore, and don't close it. Because that counts against you if you close your line of credit.

I'm sorry -- I have to disagree with some of the above answers. All the credit card companies see is whether you paid your bill on time, not how much the original charge was worth. Paying only the minimum balance will mean that your $300 item will actually cost you 10 times that much because you are paying interest. If you pay your credit card in full each month, you will never pay a dime in interest.

So, my suggestion is to buy something small each month, preferably something that you would have paid cash for anyway (groceries? gas?) and then pay that balance in full. You'll never pay interest, and your account will be in good standing. I have a friend that would buy something, and then immediately transfer the $$ from her bank account to her credit card so that she wouldn't spend money she didn't actually have in the bank.

Pay your bills? Then get a credit card with a 500 credit limit taking precaution of the Annual Percentage Rate. APR as you know it. Also, don't get a credit card that has a membership fee. Once you establish a credit card. Use it wisely and pay the minimum amount to stretch out the payments. Always be on time with payments. Purchase something with your 500 dollar credit limit say something for 300. Make the minimum payments never being late with any payments until its paid off. Later on if you are always on time with payments, they will increase your limit. Do the same with that. Making sure you can make the minimum payments ON TIME. Slowly, you will be able to build your credit that way. Payments must be made on time tho. None of this crap. I don't have it. You will find yourself in a deeper hole. For wiser advise, get to your library. There are plenty of books that can educate you on how to raise your credit score safely without getting stuck in the process.

Hi, in the past, people were able to "piggyback" good credit from someone else, and get good credit that way. For instance, a parent may add their child as an authroized user on the parents account, thereby giving the child instant credit history by being listed as an authorized user. However, I believe that they (FICO scoring) has started to do away with that. So, if thats no longer available, I would recommend checking your credit out, online, which you can do for free. I recommend www.annualcreditreport.com. This is a completely free site that allows you to check your credit reports free once a year. From that site, you can dispute any old information and the credit bureaus make sure that the bad credit is really yours by asking the creditors to verify that it actually belongs to you. The Fair Credit Reporting act stipulates that the burden of proof of the debt belongs to the creditor....so, if they do not respond back to the credit bureaus in about 30 days, then the credit bureaus (Experian, Transunion and Equifax) MUST remove the disputed account...which would give you a better score if you can remove it. Other than that... its just a matter of time to build a better score. Read more on www.MyFico.com, they give tips there. Good luck!

throw away the checkbook use cash and money orders. good luck!

Pay your bills, and pay them on time. Don't buy anything that you cannot afford to pay for at the time you buy it.

Charge as much as you can, but again, only what you can pay off that month. That way you will build your credit and not go into debt.

Good luck :)

To Repair credit score
Your credit score is based mostly on:

1. Length of credit history
2. Payment history.
3. Ratio of credit used to available credit.
4. Number of credit inquiries you authorized.

If you cancel your card, you'll be hurting your credit ratio. (#3).

You want to deliberately keep your oldest credit card open, even if you never use it.

You want to always pay the minimums of each loan on time every month.

You want to keep your available credit high, but actually only have balances equalinig 25% or less.

You want to keep your credit inquiries to a minimum. Try for no more than 3 or 4 per year for any type of loans.

You do these things and your credit score will quickly soar into the 700s.

STEP ONE

Tell the consumer reporting company, in writing, what information you think is inaccurate. Include copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position. In addition to providing your complete name and address, your letter should clearly identify each item in your report you dispute, state the facts and explain why you dispute the information, and request that it be removed or corrected. You may want to enclose a copy of your report with the items in question circled. Your letter may look something like the one on page 6. Send your letter by certified mail, “return receipt requested,” so you can document what the consumer reporting company received. Keep copies of your dispute letter and enclosures.

Consumer reporting companies must investigate the items in question — usually within 30 days — unless they consider your dispute frivolous. They also must forward all the relevant data you provide about the inaccuracy to the organization that provided the information. After the information provider receives notice of a dispute from the consumer reporting company, it must investigate, review the relevant information, and report the results back to the consumer reporting company. If the information provider finds the disputed information is inaccurate, it must notify all three nationwide consumer reporting companies so they can correct the information in your file.

When the investigation is complete, the consumer reporting company must give you the results in writing and a free copy of your report if the dispute results in a change. If an item is changed or deleted, the consumer reporting company cannot put the disputed information back in your file unless the information provider verifies that it is accurate and complete. The consumer reportincompany also must send you written notice that includes the name, address, and phone number of the information provider. If you request, the consumer reporting company must send notices of any correction to anyone who received your report in the past six months. You can have a corrected copy of your report sent to anyone who received a copy during the past two years for employment purposes.

If an investigation doesn’t resolve your dispute with the consumer reporting company, you can ask that a statement of the dispute be included in your file and in future reports. You also can ask the consumer reporting company to provide your statement to anyone who received a copy of your report in the recent past. You can expect to pay a fee for this service.
STEP TWO

Tell the creditor or other information provider, in writing, that you dispute an item. Be sure to include copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position. Many providers specify an address for disputes. If the provider reports the item to a consumer reporting company, it must include a notice of your dispute. And if you are correct – that is, if the information is found to be inaccurate – the information provider may not report it again.

Well first off...you have to pay off whatever big debt you have, as much as u can.
Make sure all your monthly bill payments are made on time.
Also, whatever tradelines(credit cards or whatever else you may have) you have stay open with a decent low balance, and all your payments are on time.
Your credit score changes on a monthly basis depending on lates usually. If you keep on top of you debt your credit score will soon start to rise.
