Here is a link to Bank of America student checking with Visa Debit card: http://www.bankofamerica.com/deposits/checksave/index.cfm?template=check_student

They are free for 5 years for students.

Credit unions are a good choice. It doesn't have to be through your school. Look in the phone book for credit unions in your local area and call them to see what the requirements are to join.

It sounds like you are looking to get an ATM card with a VISA logo so you can purchase online. Another option is a pre-paid type of credit card that is for people who want to build their credit. The ATM card is probably the best choice in the long run because it also gives you the checking account.

I had bad experiences with both Wells Fargo and Bank of America when I was in college. B of A refused my business, and Wells Fargo increased service fees on me as often as they changed their underwear. Even though I met the requirements to not pay those fees they took them from my account anyway. My brother had Wells Fargo too. His account came up short $25 to $35 a month for over a year. The branch manager could not explain the deductions, and they did not credit his account for the missing money. He finally closed his account to make it stop. I think he should have turned them in to the district attorney.

I work at Citibank, we have student checking accounts without fees as long as you can bring the lastest bill and receipt of payment to the bank when you open. The fee is waived for a year, you have to return once a year to ask for the fee to be waived, you just need you current student idea after the first year.

Try Principal bank, or US Bank, NetBank...most other banks don't care that you are a student just as long as you have some cash to cover the use of a check card ( not creit card).

Bank of America has student accounts available with fees

Lots of banks have special student checking accounts. Ask your local bank. I know Commerce Bank does

Try a local credit bureau...you usually pay about $20 (which you get back when you close the account) to be a member and then your checking and savings are free.

If you are in school just show your school ID and most banks will not require you to have a job. Here are a few well-known banks that might interest you.

Try Washington Mutual or a credit union

WellsFargo and Bank of America often open branches on college campuses. They have free checking and student-specific account programs.
