Anyone out there received Emails supposedly from Royal Bank of Scotland?
They usually request me to update my bank details, I suspect a scam as I do not have an account with that bank also they keep refering to me with different titles. Any info would be appreciated

It sounds like Phishing to me. They're tyring to get information from you (or rather from a Royal Bank of Scotland customer) Just delete the messages before you open them.

If you really want to be a good dobie, you can forward the email to RBS (see the alert below from the RBS website)

From the http://www.RBS.co.uk site:

Bogus Royal Bank of Scotland email
Have you responded to a bogus Royal Bank of Scotland email?

There has been a recent spate of phishing emails sent to some of our customers claiming to be from The Royal Bank of Scotland.

Phishing is the name given to the practice of sending emails at random purporting to come from a genuine company operating on the Internet, in an attempt to trick customers of that company into disclosing information at a bogus website operated by criminals.

THESE EMAILS ARE BOGUS AND THE LINK IS TO A BOGUS SITE.

If you have received such an email, please attach it to a new email and send it to digitalbanking@rbs.co.uk, before deleting it, so that we can identify the source.

If you think you may have responded with your Digital Banking security details, please call us immediately on 0845 600 8212 (24 hours a day). From outside the UK please call (0044) 131 317 4597 (24 hours a day).

Remember - we never ask customers to provide their security details by email so please ignore emails that do. Customers should only ever access online banking by entering www.rbsdigital.com directly into the browser address bar or alternatively by clicking "log in" from www.rbs.co.uk, where you will need to enter RANDOM characters from your PIN and Password.

Visit our Security section for further advice on handling emails and other security issues such as viruses, firewalls, spyware and Trojans.

There's a lot of these about, all from different banks, hoping you have an account with one of them and you fall for this - they are trying to get your details, which, as we all know, you should NEVER give over the internet...no genuine bank would ever ask you to do this. Just delete the e-mails and warn others!

vanman
Its a scam i have been getting the same request from tdcanada trust asking me to update. on there web site they are warning people about this just delete email when you get it

aecfac
Most definitely a scam. Stay away from any emails/offers from other countries

davetumalty
Hi i get them from loads of differant banks. funnily enough iv never had any that pretend to be from a bank i actually have an account with.

Just ignore them. I like to click on thier link and fill in there forms with swear words. but thats just me

Any emails from any bank you don't have an account with OR any email from any bank asking you for your bank details needs to be deleted!!!!

Furthermore, if you don't have an account with a bank and you receive an email from them DELETE it without opening it.
And yes... it is a scam.
You never give or update your bank details in an email. If you do anything like that online you have to have an account with them to start with and you should be doing it on a secure site (i.e. with a padlock at the very bottom of the screen) NEVER in an email.

catseyesred
I received a "warning" from my bank about this kind of thing...it is a scam. Report them and then delete.

I get them as well. Also from several other banks. Delete them

rachealuk
DO AS ALL THE OTHERS SAY... DELETE THEM. IF A BANK WANTED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU THEY WOULD WRITE TO YOU OR CALL YOU IF IT WAS AN EMERGENCY AND IF EVER IN ANY DOUBT ANY CORRESPONDENCE IS GENUINE, CALL THEM ON THE NUMBER ON YOUR STATEMENT!

Wow fancy that! Yes, I've been plagued by them for the last couple of weeks. Says 'Dear Bank of Scotland Customer' and wants me to update by details - my anti virus warned me it was a fraudulent site and now they go straight into my 'bulk items'.

I tried to contact RBS but their 'Contact Us' site didn't seem to be working.

scott r
delete these emails straight away. never answer them. banks will never ask for these detail by email
