Applying for a credit card that would build my credit report?
Hi all, I am new to the united states and has been living here for a year. My current credit score is between 600-700 and I want to open a new credit card account to build my credit history here. What bank/company/credit card do you guys recommend me to apply for that would build my credit history fast? Especially it would be good if those companies offer some benefits of using their credit card. Thanks

Your bank would be the best one to start with before going with other companies

A secured credit card requires that you deposit money with the issuing bank, and the bank will issue a credit card in the same amount for your use. Secured cards are guaranteed to be approved, because the bank has your deposit money in case you do not pay your balance. A secured credit card for bad credit operates much like a regular credit card. You receive a monthly statement, and you pay your minimum monthly payment or the balance in full each month. You are charged an interest rate, annual fee and possibly other fees for a secured credit card account.

Be aware that with a secured credit card for bad credit, your charges are not deducted from the deposit you have with the issuing bank. The bank is simply holding your deposit in the case that you default on your credit card balance. You must pay your monthly payments, and owe the bank the balance that you have charged on the credit card. You cannot refuse to pay simply because the bank is holding a deposit without further damaging your credit. apply online at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/PrePaid_Card.html

The best way I know to use credit cards and build your credit is to funnel most/all of your normal spending (what you'd normally just pay cash for) through your reward credit card(s) and pay off your balance in full every month. That way you build your credit quickly, avoid interest, and earn rewards (like cash back).

The only question then is: Which reward credit card will pay you the most in rewards for your normal spending?

To answer that question, you can use this credit card reward calculator:

Some of the better rewards cards include the American Express Blue Cash, Citi Driver's Edge, and Chase Freedom card.

I do not believe that the issuer of your credit in and of itself has anything to do with how it affects your credit report, with a few exceptions. Some cards, such as the main American Express series, are actually charge cards, and only report negative information to the credit agencies. Also, one factor that makes a major difference with regards to your credit score is your total debt utilisation percentage: that is the amount of your credit balance divided by your total credit limit. This is something you want to keep down, so if you can, shop for as high a credit limit as possible. Finally, the main thing that will build your credit score is a long history of on time payments, so try to get your card as soon as possible and pay properly every month.

Rewards are very dependent on your own priorities. If you're looking to travel, consider a card that is tied to the airline that operates most flight near your home. One thing to watch out for is store charge cards (regardless of the rewards offered at the particular stores), as there is a fairly well held belief that these may actually harm your score.

Hope this helps.

It's not about the credit card company that helps you to build your credit score. You have total control of how you want to keep your credit score high.

Go online to major banks such as BOA, Citibank, Wacovia... to check out what type of credit card that fits you best. don't apply to an unknown credit card companies. Visa, Master cards issue by hundreds of banks or companies. Choose the one that you can trust.

There are student cards, colleges and universities, cards that give you cash back, airline mileage, worldpoints, charity, military, outdoors, sports, shopping etc.. Before applied to any credit cards, make sure to read carefully all the terms and conditions because not all credit cards are created equal.

Some you have to pay fees to use it like travel cards because you get free mileage, others you get perks to access to airport lounge like platinum Amex check out the fees before applied.

Majority of the cards do not require annual fee unless it's a secured card. Also keep in mind because you apply to certain cards, that doesn't mean you will get the credit line you're looking for. It all depends on your credit worthiness
