josh_jeckel | Are debt collectors allowed to call your work? |
I tell them go away I'm at work and youre keeping me from making money, but they think they can keep calling me at my office. |

If you notify them in writing to not call, then they would be violating if they do call.
If you are still within the collecting SOL for your state, you might only tell them to not call your work or your home as it is inconvenient to you and all further correspondence must be done by USPS.
Per the FTC - just telling them verbally to stop will not hold them liable for violating by calling, it must be done in writing. |

Yes they can call you at work if they have the number and cant reach you on your cell or house number. I had this happen to me once before and I told them not to call me at my job again. Once you tell them that or put it in writing they can no longer call your job. |

They can until you tell them to stop.
It has to be in writing for your home # though. Most colelction agencies will resepct a verbal though.
Best bet is to pay them. |

have your boss tell them that you are not allowed personal calls at work unless it is a family emergency. |

yes if they can not gain access at your home, |

Well they want their money.. do you blame them? Get your finances under control before your credit is completely destroyed. |

I believe if you ask the bill collector not to call you at your work, I do believe that they are not supposed to call back. Just explain to them that you are not allowed personal phone calls at work unless they are emergency. |

they can call you whenever they want if thats the number you gave them. the thing about "do not call" registries, is that it doesn't apply to anyone you have outstanding business with.
However, just say "my boss is here" and hang up. |

You can write them and let them know your workplace does not want you to receive phone calls from them and by law they have to cease. Also, you can write them and tell them to cease contacting you at all and they can only contact you to update you on remedies they plan to take, etc.
http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm
Go to Communication with the Consumer and Ceasing Communication part. This is the law, not just heresay.
I had problems with creditors calling me after 9pm because I have a Mississippi area code but live in Pennsylvania so the time zones are different. One company I did talk to a supervisor, explained I know my legal rights and I know that I can sue them if they do not cease to contact me...which you can get a judgement of $1000 for them violating your rights ontop of court costs, etc. Anyway, that company took me off their automatic calling list. Although, some companies still try to go past the law like Chase. I hope this helps. |

no they are not suppose to, tell them you know they're not allowed to call you at your place of employment, but talk to them at home and try to settle the debt |

If you've got caller ID at work, don't answer the phone. That's why they make voice mail. |

NO they cannot call your place of employment to collect a personal debt. It is against the law. I believe you can take them to court. |
