Are medical bills outstanding included on credit checks when applying for an apt?

I recently applied for a car loan and had a $1000 outstanding medical bill that had been turned over to collections on my credit. I asked if that would hurt my boyfriend and I in obtaining the loan and she advised that even though it shows up on the report it is ILLEGAL for a company to use it against you when running your credit. It does not drop your credit score. Therefore, it should not affect your chances of getting an apartment at all.

Only if sent for collection. Medical providers are good on this, because they usually don't send out bills until the insurance kicks in which usually takes months.

Peter V
I believe so, especially if they were paid for or some of them have been paid for via credit card. i

Yes and if they have been sent to collections you will most likely not get the apt.

Most apt managers will not accept medical bills, phone companies (ATT, MCI, etc) or electricity/ gas companies that have shown up on your credit report

♥ If they went to a collections agency & are on your credit report then yes they are!

It jst depends... if they have reported you to a credit agency, which is their right, then yes.

But a lot of medical places will let you go 30,60,90, or even 120 days before they report.

The best thing to do, is call and ask them.

They know people struggle to pay their bills... An honest question will probably get you an honest answer!

Good luck!

Yes, unpaid medical bills will show up on your credit report and have an impact on your credit score.

beachbum
Yes........

t
they do show up on your credit report....they can also have a negative impact on your over all credit score. Put at least 10.00 on them each month....that amount seems very low however, the amount you pay on your bills is also on the report. If you are applying for a loan, they are generally disregarded if you are making payments. When i am granting a loan i look at income v/s bills and will you have enough to cover the loan payment. There is more to your credit score then just a number and most places will take everything into consideration.

Yes, if you didn't pay them and they sent you to a collection agency it might show up on your credit report.
