Are people to blame for loaning? Or are loan companies to blame for offering the service?
I just want to know what your thought are on loan companies. Money Mart actually supported the Canadian Government efforts to regulate payday loans and asked all of their customers to sign a petition in favor of it. Who do you think should take responsibility for this kind of debt?
No one forces anyone to make these loans, all of the terms and conditions are in writing, so in my opinion the only person responsible for these loans are the people that use them.

No one has ever been forced to get a loan. Is McDonalds responsible for fat people? Is Dairy Queen responsible for diabetes.
Keep the government out of our everyday lives.

Here in the states similar questions are cropping up lately. So called sub-prime mortgages were aggressively marketed and sold to people who ordinarily would not have qualified for the amount of debt they took on. At the same time the government made it harder for individuals to declare Chapter 11 bankruptcy (wherein many installment debts could be discharged vs. rescheduled in Ch 7 or 13 bankruptcies). It is yet another instance of the corporate-government axis that has ground down consumers with relentless pressure to borrow and spend until the time comes when all is forgiven the banks and marketers, but the middle class is further squeezed.
Ultimately, the CEOs of disgraceful lender institutions should be forced to contribute a significant amount of the past three-to-five years' total compensation to a fund that could be used to at least partially repay these ill-advised public obligations.

Predatory lenders are unethical. But consumerism is all about supply and demand. If there were no demand for these services, then there would be no supply. I think people are to blame for taking out ridiculous loans that they can not afford. But it is sad that companies knowingly profit off of consumer stupidity.

It really isn't about responsibility. These people take advantage of other peoples misfortune. Here is a good information site:

The person taking out the loan is responsible for his or her own debt. The terms are in writing, if you didn't read them that would be your own fault. People need to be more financially responsible. Just because someone is offering, you don't have to take it.
