Are there any alternatives to bankruptsy?
I have student loans from college and several other debts that my parents helped me acquire before I was 18 and its been very hard for me to save money and pay my bills at the same time. My #1 priority is clearing my debt and I need a way to stay current with the bills I have now and pay my remaining $18000. I've considered bankruptsy, but I am just way too young for that and I know it will look really bad if I do.

Contact your creditors and work out a payment arrangement. You could also contact a credit counseling agency to help you with a budget.

Make a budget and stick to it. It's not that complicated. Spend less than you make. You may need to eat rice and beans for 3 years, but you can do it.

Call your student loan lenders and tell them your situation you might qualify for a financial hardship term which will reduce your payments or just pay interest each month. You can also CONSOLIDATE your student loans to reduce your monthly payment. I have Nelnet. As far as your other debts call whoever you owe money to and tell them you are having a financial hardship tell them the month you will be able to resume payment or increase your amount. HOwever you do this communicate with the people you owe money to and they can work something out..

Do not do consumer counseling credit.. it's almost like bankruptcy.

you should look into getting your student loans suspended. if you are fresh out of school i believe that is an option. you may get out of making payments for 6-12 months *i think*

move back in with your parents or get a roommate to lower your living costs.

definitely don't do bankruptcy, it will screw your credit for at least the next 7 years of your life.

find the highest-paying job you can. take a 2nd job for evenings/weekends.

Julie Andrea
NON PROFIT Consumer Credit Counseling

be sure it is the non profit one .. they work with the credit card companies AND other creditors to reduce or eliminate your interest and lower your payments, you pay the CCC agency and they distribute your $$ every month for you .. and you did have any, you would have to hand over your credit cards, they cut them up .. they may also advise you on bankruptcy

stop going deeper into debt, stop buying crap you don't need

Good Luck to you!

Click on the link below. This man is very helpful. He has an alternative to bankruptcy. There's a short form you fill out at the bottom of the page (not for a loan just for info). I have contacted him with questions before, and he really does answer you.

General information on bankrupcty.

http://www.creditmanagementworld.com/bankruptcy/bankruptcy01.html

Most of this stuff is for business to business bankrupcty, but some of it applied to personal bankrupcty.

You may want to consider a subscription to this website. It's only $80 to a year-long membership and it will allow you to look at the other bankrupcty documents that they have online. It's far cheaper to educate yourself first...rather than have an attorney educate you for $200 an hour. (The lawyer will spend all the time in the world with you of course...because the proverbial meter will be running the whole time.)

Now you know why it's called "wage-slavery". It didn't used to be this hard for young people. Please do not vote for Republicans.

With the change in bankruptcy laws, it may be easier to run away and start anew elsewhere

Stop shopping, sell some things, and find a sugar daddy. There are some other things you can do but it depends on how you look.
