If I had a credit card I would have to let someone else hold on to it for me and only use it in a dire emergency because when you have a credit card you have to pay monthly intrest accruing payments which takes a while to pay back. I would recommend not getting one unless I had a very good paying and stable job and I knew that their would be no problem paying for the credit card. I am 22 years old and I don't have one although I do have a check card (which can be used like a credit card with out the intrest fees and it keeps you form having to hold up lines like writing a check does) talk to your bank if you have a checking account and see about getting one of thoes and after you see how well your able to keep up with that then reconsider the credit card...but until then I wouldn't even think of getting a credit card. And depending on your age that would be another consideration too (if your still in high school) I wouldn't even be thinking about that right now.

22 or 23. Back in the dark ages, they were not easy to get and the credit limit was only $300. It was 3 or 4 years of on time payments, and two job promotions, before that limit got raised to $500.

18. Got it against my parents' wishes, but did a lot of research. Strictly used for gas, food, etc. Never kept balances as I was trying to build good credit and never got into financial trouble with it.

I got my first credit card at 18, However I've never had a late payment and I never carry a balance either. I used it at that point in time to build my credit. Be extremely careful with credit cards and educate yourself heavily on them so that you can make sure and choose one that's right for you. and if you're one of those people that doesn't have self control when spending. Avoid getting a credit card all together it'll just be a disaster.
