pixiedust2008 | Auto loan, no credit, no cosigner, just relocated...? |
I moved to california a month ago and am in desperate need of a car! I am 18, have no credit, no cosigner, and I will start a new job here soon full time. I have been employed at another job for about a year but I dont know if that will help me. I need a car asap. I need a loan that doesnt look at my credit and wont care soo much that Ive been here less than a year. Or another way to finance my car. |

Tough question. Bad credit is not the same as no credit. If you have no credit, it should be simple to get the financing you need within a few days. The major providers of Visa and Mastercard -- ie. Bank of America, Capital One, etc., will extend you some credit immediately if you have no credit, maybe enough to purchase an inexpensive car. Do you have a bank account? If so, and you had the same bank in your old home state, your bank might consider extending a line of credit to you, or even give you an auto loan -- a new bank might do it too. Most auto dealers have programs for people who are just getting started, but you would need a job. Credit unions are the easiest to get a loan from. If you have been turned down by a dealer, I would apply for a Visa, then sit down with an officer at my bank.
I work in finance, and I see people with all sorts of credit issues, no income, etc. -- and most of them are able to find financing. The most important thing is not to have a bunch of people look at your credit all at once -- no more than four companies. This is why I am saying 1. Visa / MC first (one inquiry), then 2. Your bank. Odds are good you'll get approved by both, which would take some pressure off of you while you get established.
Good luck! |

Shop around, a lot of car dealers will finance a car for you just because you can produce a check stub and a bank account number. The payments will be deducted automatically each month but be prepared to pay much higher interest.
Don't forget you have to get insurance also. |

Moved to CA without already owning a car?
What were you thinking???
Seriously, pay cash for a $500 beater. |

You can probably get a loan at a pretty high interest rate, as long as you put down enough money that the lender has equity. Remember, they own the car and will be glad to take it back if you can't pay.
Try some local credit unions first. |

It sounds like going into debt is the last thing you need right now. Just pay cash for your car. |

You can try prosper.com. It is a community lending site, you get loans from other people instead of big banks. A lot of people use it to turn their lives around and most of the lenders are regular joes like the rest of us! |

Car dealers are so hard up for a sale now that they will pay you to buy their cars.
You can easily find a car with a $1000- $5000 rebate and use $3000 of that rebate as a down payment and pocket $2000 for yourself. You have a JOB thats all that matters. You need a bank account and an address. Thats it!
I just bought a new 2008 Toyota Tacoma with no credit and used the rebate as cash down. The only trouble with this financing is the payment is 400 per month!
So there you go, make your best deal! its cheaper to buy a new car now than a used one. It's under warranty for at least 3 years and get better gas mileage than any used car. |

Unless your new job pays mega bucks, you obviously can't afford a loan. Plus your only 18 and have no credit history....so how do you plan on getting a loan. The only other option was a co-signer...that's a no-go....you better secure a bus pass for now. |

If you have a bad credit history still the loan market place is full of lenders who are ever willing to offer you a fresh loan. But you should be meeting some conditions laid down by the lenders. Loans for bad credit people are in fact easier to get then they were ever before, thanks mainly to cut-throat competition amongst the lenders. Lenders are giving loans to the bad credit people who have late payments, payment defaults, arrears, county court judgments or any credit problems. These loans are available for any purpose like home improvements, purchasing a new or used car of your choice, for wedding and holiday tour, debt consolidation or for paying child’s tuition fees.

Every lender in approving loans surely likes to see if the bad credit borrower has sufficient capacity to repay the loan in timely manner. If the borrower earns well, has regular bank balance, has been an employee for some years and has a convincing loan repayment plan in place, then the lenders do not usually hesitate much. So ensure that you have adequate repaying capacity before applying for a loan. Also, you should first check your credit report for any errors. If your credit score is too low then you would be charged a very high rate of interest. So it is advisable to first pay off some easy debts to improved credit score and then you should apply for loan at better rates.

Go to a credit union and get a pre-approval from them. They will charge a lot less than banks, sometimes for as low as 4-5% currently. They sometimes will offer a fixed interest rate if you have decent credit and/or at least a stable job, as long as you haven't had bankruptcy or have bad credit.
Don't let the auto dealers eat you alive with their 18% interest rate loans.
Credit Unions will CUDL (pronounced 'cuddle' which stands for Credit Union Direct Lending) with auto dealers, which means some auto dealers will be able to have you automatically apply with a specific credit union.
Otherwise, use public transportation until you can afford to build credit and get a car. |

I bought my first vehicle last year when I was 18. My parents didn't cosign and I put 0 down. I just went to my bank and got a lien-holder loan for 8k. They mainly went off of my current job and how long I had been there. Your interest will be on the high side, but pay it off quick to avoid losing money to the loan and you will also earn credit based on how well you do with it. |

You will be able to get a car that is no doubt but your interest rate will be up the wazoo. I bought a car 2 years ago and at the time my credit was horrible so I basically got a terrible deal in which my interest rate is 17.5% and my payments are 400 something a month. |

Wait until you start your job and take public transportation. You need to put a good down payment on a car or pay cash. Get a credit card somewhere and pay it off to help establish credit but if you don't have credit, you will have to pay a high interest rate. Just buy a used car in cash. |
