GRNEYEDT | Bad credit marrying good credit? |
I'm getting married next weekend. I have bad credit & my future husband has great credit. We have no joint accounts or debts. Every debt I have is solely in my name & every debt he has is in his name. Will my bad credit affect his good credit. Will my creditors be able to go after him for my debts? |

Your credit will not affect his adversely, unless you get some type of loan together and then your maybe have higher rates if you do it joint, or if you default on that loan it can effect his credit. I believe that prior to marriage debt collectors can not hold a party responsible for previous debts prior to the marriage, you need to worry more about debts that occur once you are married, hope that helps |

As long as it's separate debt then no it won't affect his credit. Any loans you get jointly will affect his credit. So in most cases when applying for credit, if possible, it may be best to just apply with his credit.
In some cases (depending on state law), debts incurred within a marriage are joint debt and both are equally liable. Just keep everything separate as much as possible until you get your ducks in a row. |

Your credit will definitely affect his when you apply for joint accounts. Keep your debt in your name and get it cleaned up before pulling him down with you. Regarding if your creditors will go after him for your debts, it usually depends upon the laws of the state you're living in. Provided that you just keep your name on the accounts, they probably won't even know about him.
Make sure your new hubby knows everything about your situation - money surprises always seem to kill relationships. |

For all debts prior to marriage, he will not be liable for them.
However in reality, he is. After marriage, your assets and incomes are joined, and it's those joined assets and income that will be paying off these debts.
Make sure he's aware of your financial situation so he can go in with his eyes open. |

yes, when you marry, it will hurt him some but it will help yours |

No they won't be able to go after him for your debts. Your bad credit will affect the ability of you as a couple to obtain credit as in a mortgage loan when both of you are on the note. To avoid any future complications make sure you keep your finances strictly separate from his--for instance--a joint bank account becomes fair game for bill collectors trying to collect against you even with a second person's name on it. Keep your finances apart for several years until your personal credit improves. |

If you keep things seperate then he won't be liable for your debts i don't think,
as soon as you start having joint back accounts and things thats when they come after you both.
umm it shouldn't have any affect on his credit rating unless you start getting joint accounts and things and get into further debt that way,

creditors will be able to ding his credit if you do start to have joint accounts and shared credit cards etc.
collectors will try to lower any improving score by hitting it with inquiries to try to pressure you into settling with them.
be careful, but this shouldn't be an issue
these days credit is fairly easy to repair, use your husbands credit to your advantage and start improving yours. |

Yes, he will inherit your debts! |

YES your bad credit will affect his good credit. You should have gotten your credit cleaned up before you married. Too late now. You'll both just have to focus on paying off your debt. YES they can go after him. YES they can come after you. When you get married, you are financially one person. |
