If your credit is really bad, you may have to put down $1000-$2000 for a new car. I know this from past experience with myself.
Another thing is that it is easier to get a new car loan than a used car loan. Try to go to a new car lot that advertises bad credit financing, but you may pay up to a 20% interest rate. The worse they can say is no.

I say you find a bank that is willing to maybe work with you through a co -signer. If you can establish a long term relationship with that bank and have someone who is willing to cosign for you the bank maybe willing to approve the loan. Another alternative is find someone to apply for the loan for you and you be the cosigneer. This is not necessary but can help you reestablish your credit. The amount you have to put down depends on who finances it, the type of vehicle etc. If none of the other options are possible then yes you may have to bite the bullet and go to a we buy, we finance dealer at a really high inteest rate. But if you make your payments on time you may be able to refinance with another credit source in about a year. Good LUck, I know its hard when you don't have good credit. |

It is very difficult to find any lender to give you a loan on a used car. The reason being, there isn't much value in the vehicle to begin with and they figure if you default on the loan, they're going to wind up losing as the resale value won't be enough to cover what you owe. It's actually easier to get a new car loan with bad credit then it is to get a used car loan.
I'm posting a website for you to take a look at that has some car buying tips plus some bad credit finance tips. I also know that Capital One makes used car loans.
You might want to get a hold of your credit report and see if there are any things you can work on to start improving your score. |

I would just find a $1500-2000 decent car, import like mine Mitsubishi Mirage 1998 I bought for $1700. You don't want to be making payments for years on just some used car. |

Anybody can have a bad credit record. Mistakes do happen. But what we should do is not to repeat the mistakes.
Follow the same advice when it comes to loans. If you have a bad credit history, then go for a bad credit loan. It is a feasible loan option to let you fulfill your financial goals. A bad credit history can include arrears, defaults, bankruptcies, County Court Judgments etc.

I don't know how to answer all of your questions, but try a place like Drive Time (www.drivetime.com). They advertise that they will approve anybody. Your interest rate will be higher that if you had good credit but you would still get the loan. You may not need to put anything down.
Making timely payments on this new loan would also help your credit rating. |

But if you can offer collateral, your lender is secure in the knowledge that his money is in safe hands. You have to try and meet the repayment schedule, failing which you lose the asset.
If you do not have collateral, go for an unsecured personal loan, which is rare for people with bad credit. It is necessary that your credit record should be clean for an unsecured personal loan. However, some lenders can accept your case due to inevitable reasons. |
