If you have a bad credit score and you married someone with a great credit score, the scores will be linked. Your score would not get better but you would use your new spouses.
Better to raise your score before you get married. Contact National Foundation Credit Counseling, to see what you can do. |

Anyone that is over 18 and has some history of either applying or being offered credit will have a credit score. If there have been either missed payments or collection accounts (those pesky pieces of mail you get and don't pay), then this will lower your score, whether you are married or not.
After you get married, your score may go up if that person adds you to his/her credit cards and other accounts. As long as they pay the bills on time, this will help.
You should always look at your credit report to make sure everything is accurate. If you see something that you don't recognize, report it. This can help lower your score. Also, you are entitled to a free annual credit report each year from all 3 agencies. You won't get a score unless you pay, but you can at least see what is on there. Below is the website.

Your credit score will follow you to the grave. I think that even if you are married it will affect you getting a loan, but I am not sure. |

As James said, marriage would not matter one way or another.
What would change is possible approvals if you both apply or have a co-signer. Otherwise marriage has no impact on a credit report/score. If the spouse has great credit, then get added as an authorized user to some old cards. |

To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your score<!--you'll get your credit report, an indication of how your score ranks nationally and an explanation of how you can boost your standing.

In order to improve your credit score, it's important to know where you stand currently. Despite all the media attention given to free credit reports-->you still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs. |

Hi, yes you will improve your credit score when you are married. But one time they would not let my wife on the loan documents because her credit was bad, but they used mine which was fine. |

Marriage by itself has no effect positive or negative on a persons credit score. Being added as an authorized user to existing accounts which often happens in marriage can help establish a credit history. |

Your bad credit REMAINS. It doesn't disappear just because you get married. I would really consider pulling your credit report and getting your ducks in line before your marriage. If you can't handle credit responsibility how are you able to handle marriage? |

Your credit won't change when you get married. In fact, if your credit issues are that bad, this may bring down your spouses score if you buy something together, plus you will have to pay higher interested rates. Get your credit fixed up before you get married. This may take some time, but its worth it.

Of course you can have a bad credit score. If you're a deadbeat then what would being single have to do with it?
And getting married won't change your credit score. |
