nationwide.

ok its a building society, not a bank, but their flex-accout comes with no overdraft, only a cah point card, but the ability to do standing orders and direct debits from it. at the end of the day what more do you want from a bank account?

they gave me one, 5 days after i went bankrupt, and credit histories dont come much worse than that.

hi.i have bad credit record and i opened an account with halifax as they take people on that is in the same boat as us.you will get an easy cash account.you can still have direct debts with it and use it in shops for cash back etc.it is a really good card to have under our circumstances.good luck.

I opened an account with Nationwide a few years ago, where they didn't credit check you. However, my partner then went to do the same, and they said they had stopped doing that account. He explained that he had been made bankrupt and needed an account to have his wages paid into, and they gave him an account anyway. (No debit, credit or overdraft facilities though)

I think the Post Office does them too.

Your credit record should not prevent you from opening a bank account.

It is unlikley that any bank will give you an account without doing a credit check. Some may give you a "in credit only" account despite your bad record.

Afro
Try the Post Office.

Most banks will give you an account, but only a basic current account, with no cheque book or card and no overdraft facilities. Once you have been with them for a while and proved your worth they will probably let you start to have some of the other facilities.

Try www.surefirefinance.co.uk they may be able to help.

Bank of America will let you have an account IF you don't owe another bank account fees (like for overdrafts or bounced checks) they don't care about your credit card debt or mortgage or car loan. If you've bounced checks in the past but the fees are paid and your last account wasn't closed for a negative balance, you should be okay.

www.bankofamerica.com ----> you can get live customer service (via IM)

a credit union but usually any bank will give you a savings account but not a checking account if you owe another bank for a bounced check

Chris
Try to get a 'basic bank account', as these are designed for people with poor credit history. I believe most banks offer them, but a Nationwide Flexaccount may me the best one as they offer you a cashcard you can use free in any link cashpoint, and free withdrawls overseas as well.

It mainly depends what you need a bank account for. Wages, Salary, Benefits, Tax Credits?
If it is just for benefits you can open up a Post Office Card Account, your benefit office will be able to give you more information.
If it is for other income, such as wages, ask at your local bank about a 'Basic Bank Account' with no credit facilities, they should be able to help you.
Hope you get this sorted soon

Natwest do something called a 'Step Account'. it is a basic account, no cheque book, no cheque guarantee card just a cashpoint card and the facility for direct debits. They do not any credit checks for this account.

Washington Mutual allows you to apply on-line for a checking and savings account. That might save you some embarrassment. go to www.wamu.com
Good luck.

Most major British Banks will open you a basic Bank account, but they will do a credit check on you. So if your honest with them then they should help you out, however you will not get an overdraft or credit card until you have rebuilt your credit rating.
