Bank of America Mastercard vs. Visa?
I got my first credit card a couple months ago. It's a Visa Worldpoints card from Bank of America with a 6 month 0% APR promotion. Starting next February, I've been told, my APR will be like 11%

I have also been recently offered a Bank of America MasterCard that has 0% APR on all transfers and credit checks, but not store purchases for 12 months. After that, my APR will be like 15%.

Talking to the lady on the phone about the MasterCard did not give me good feelings, not to mention the fact that my parents were in deep with them for a good part of my childhood.

My question is, for those who have had experience with Visa and/or MasterCard, from Bank of America or otherwise (please specify)what have your experiences been and what do you suggest I do? Is MasterCard really as evil as it sounds?

Are those 11% and 15% APR fixed interest rates after those special offers? Since the Visa Worldpoints is your very first card, I am assuming that you don't owe much and not need a balance transfer. Why were you talking to the MasterCard lady? Applying for your credit card? If not, I would suggest you NOT to apply for this MasterCard. Just because the high interest rate. I hope the 11% is fixed on your first credit card. Just have this one to start with, learn to be responsible for it and use it wisely.

The question is not the logo, it's who is issuing the card. Your best bet is to go to a credit union. Their interest rates are always the lowest. If in a crunch time, and you need help, you can go to them. They don't have those introductory rates, but they don't work for stockholders, they work for you the customer. See what bankrate says about this. Of course, you do need to join a credit union.

Be very careful with credit cards as the banks now have new regulations in place in which if your balance is more than 20% of your limit, they can raise the APR to whatever they want. This is of course, in the fine print area. I have several accounts with them that I closed regardless of the credit consequences since Bank of America's regulations are not people-friendly and just out for the bottomline.

BOA Mastercard or Visa makes no difference - BOA is still the lender. In my experience, BOA provides about the worst retail banking customer service I've ever seen. I canceled my BOA card when they started pestering me with marketing phone calls.

Citibank offers the lowest interest credit cards that you should consider when you decide to get a new credit card. As long as you make the monthly payment ontime, MasterCard, Visa, or any other brands are pretty much the same. Citibank has one of the best customer services from my experience.

Hang on to your Visa Card and always make payments on time. Also, since its the same bank that is issuing Mastercard and Visa, I dont think they'll allow you to do any balance transfers from Visa to Mastercard.
If you continue to use ur Visa card responsibly w/o any missed payments for about a year -- you could ask Visa card to increase ur credit limits or by that time, U will start getting plenty of other card offers in the mail.

Don't do it!! Bank of America is one of the worse companies to deal with. If your feeling were negative in the beginning, then you are probably right not to involve yourself with them. Just stay away!!!
