constant phonecalls is harasment, weather you owe them money or not.

write them a letter, show them proof of the day you moved out, report it to the police your card was used for fraud and also to the card company.

If it wasn't run up by you, then how did the creditor get the debt in your name?

If you put something in your name for someone you were living with and then they skipped out on the bill...I hate to tell you, but the creditors are contacting the correct person and the only way to make them go away is to pay them what you owe them.

This is fraud! Of course you are not liable for this debt. You must speak to your local Citizens Advice Bureau as soon as possible. It is probably also causing you to have a poor credit rating. I would in fact, speak to the police fraud squad as well. If the company contact you, tell them you have now passed the matter to the fraud squad. The Citizens Advice Bureau will be able to help sort this out, I had a similar thing once, and it got sorted, but you will need some evidence to help support your claim such as a new tenancy agreement proving you had moved out. See the CAB straight away, then the police. If they contact you by letter, take a copy, show the original to the police or CAB, if they call you, tell them you are no longer allowed to enter into discussion as it is now a fraud matter, thank them politely and hang up the phone. Make a log of all the call times and what was said in case you ever need to threaten them with a harrassment charge. Seriously! They know they are less likely to get the money out of the person who used your identity, even if they believe you. Good luck, don't give up, this is not your doing.

The best thing to do is to write the collection agency requesting an explanation of the debt. If the phone calls are disturbing you, you can request that all communication be in writing, which means that they can not legally call you. However, this does not mean that the debt has gone away. You must still work with the agency to either dispute the validity of the debt, or make arrangements to absolve the debt.

I hope this helps.

Get the C.A.B to write a letter,do it quick as these companies add interest to the balance, to make it look better in court.
Not as though is will affect you but it can cause you extreme stress which you should not have to put up with. let the C.A.B know how it is affecting you and they should let the company know this, and tell them you will take court action for stress etc. good luck hope it sorts out soon,

This is credit card fraud and needs to be reported to the police, as well as the credit reporting agencies. The next time they call, you need to get their contact info so you can mail them a copy of the police report. Then, get a lawyer to help you straighten this out. It's going to take time and cost you money to fix this.

The other option is to place a fraud alert on your credit report, pay the debt, and close the account. You decide.

Sorry, its in your name...its your debt. Pay it and sue the ex-roommate in small claims if you wish.

keep all the letters and records and give them to a solisitor - or ask the credit card company for details of the debts and signatures used - u need to sort it as they could mess up your credit rating

You`ve been a victim of identity fraud. Write to the company`s legal department explaining this and ask them to send you a copy of the credit agreement that was signed by the fraudster. Send them a copy of your drivers license with your signature on. I would send them proof of when you moved out if you can and tell them you will take legal action if they continue to harass you also tell them that you have reported them to the financial services authority- presuming you live in the UK. Don`t pay it as someone else says- you are admitting liability.

there"s a national do not call list put your # on it and then tell them to stop calling if they do then you can prosecute and f with them.
