I had to do this myself. First things first, you have to start paying your bills on time if you are not doing so. On time, every time. If you have a credit card with a balance, you need to get it paid off. This means paying extra on it. I take full advantage of my banks' online bill pay and everything I have is automatically paid in synch with my paycheck. That way I never have a late bill and I can never spend more than I have. Sign up for one of those free credit reports. Check it now, and check it in 6 mths. If you have done just the steps I have said here, it will be improved.

If you are carrying past balances, you don't have to pay them off in full right away, just make sure you are paying the minimum (more is better) on time each month. As others have said, check your credit report and make sure things are correct on it. Go to annualcreditreport.com to get a free credit report. Other helpful websites:
feedthepig.org
daveramsey.com
both websites will help you get out of debt and stay out of debt. Good luck! Remember that it is more than just credit cards that will show on your credit report; loans and utility bills will be there as well.

I'm afraid there are no shortcuts. The only way to fix your credit is to pay your bills. Forgive me for saying so...but it seems that you've already had a phone, car and apartment and proved they were beyond your finances. Time to start over.

You need to start with paying off the bills you did not pay for in the past. Start calling creditors one at a time, and work out a settlement. THey will settle for less then 50% most likely.

Since you have been denied credit, you have thirty days to obtain a copy of your credit report that they used. (must be requested in writing) The credit you currently have must be paid on time. You can dispute your derogatory accounts with the credit agencies, again, must be done in writing. Once disputed, the derogatory accounts have thirty days to prove you are delinquent. the paper work could get misfiled or if they do not get back in time, it goes off your credit report. The key to good credit would be:three open accounts with good payment history with less than half of the credit used up. If you don't have three, get three. Orchardbank.com should give you a credit card, or better yet, have your parents add you as a signer on their credit card and tell them to throw away the new credit card with your name on it. This way you will get their history with no way of screwing up their credit.

There are no easy fixes. There are things you can do, but there are no simply answers. Everyone's situation is different. It's why there are discussion forums, like MyFico.

get a copy of your credit report and start making phone calls to pay your bills if you have any ...if you dont try getting a credit card thru orchard bank they specialize in people with bad credit ...after a month or two you will see that cell phone companies will give you a chance ...

The ONLY way to fix your credit is to pay off your debts, make all your payments on time every time, and use your credit wisely. Slowly, your score will come up. It can take a couple of months to ruin your credit, but it might take years to fix it.

I would not take the advice of the guy telling you to LIE about each black mark.

There is no way to erase bad credit from your credit report, but you can improve it. You can start by pulling your credit report form all three credit agencies which are Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. You can find out how to obtain these for free annually at the U.S. Government website at Federal Trade Commission. Then, follow these simple guidelines to help restore and improve your credit score.

First, make sure all the information on your credit report is accurate.

Second, try to pay off all or any accounts that are currently in collections or make payment arrangements with the creditor to pay off the balance monthly.

Third, any credit card that is over 50% of the available credit line should be paid down to under half of your total credit line. Your credit score is lowered when your available balance is over 50% of your total credit line.

Finally, if you have bad or no credit and have no credit cards try to obtain two credit cards and make sure all of your monthly payments are made on time. This will help increase your credit score. If you cannot be approved for a unsecured credit card, obtain a secured credit card.

Repairing your credit and improving your credit score is a slow process that takes time.

Lots of really, really bad answers from some very ignorant people on this subject. Nothing new at this site.

Learn how to repair your credit. It's that simple.

The first thing you need to do is to start making all your payments on time. While this won't help the transgressions in the past, it will make a difference going forward.

Having said that, do this: get a copy of your credit report from each of the three national credit bureaus. You are entitled to one free report from each once a year. Go here for that:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

Once you have the credit report and can identify the problems, send out handwritten dispute letters, separately on each item. Just say the item is not yours, you never had that account, and it must belong to someone else. If you do this often enough eventually you will get rid of quite a few of the black marks. The time span on these disputes is 60-90 days so you will be engaged in this for a year or two. send the dispute letters to the credit bureau reporting the negative item.

This is about he easiest way, not very fast, but rebuilding credit is never fast. Anyone who tells you otherwise is gving you mis-information.

I did something like this several years ago and wiped out about 98% of all the negative things, but it took over two years.

in the mean time, perhaps your parents could co-sign for you.
